Hacking the Verizon V9M

If you are interested or curious there is information out there about installing the US Cellular Monster Pack on the Verizon V9M. This will enable a lot of the "features" that Verizon disabled with thier OI. Here is a link to a step by step on how to.

WARNING, this can brick your phone if done incorrectly. I have not tried, nor endorse this, I am posting here for informational purposes. This is not a straight forward flash, requires backing up seems, restoring seems, editing seems post flash, etc.

As I said before, I have not tried this on my V9M (yet ) still thinking about it and doing more re-search. So if you decide to give it a shot, please don't ask me questions about it as I will not be able to answer them. If I do get brave enough to try it, will report back and let you know how I made out.

But I'm iffy with flashing. I like seem editing, as long as I can add my own ringtones and add some other stuff I'm fine.

But I would like to hear more about this. Maybe a video or pictures.

No worries. I flashed my buddies v9m the day the guide was released. It's actually a very simple process compared to flashing the original Razr's. As and added FYI even if something does happen the original VZW monster flash file is on the float also. That said you can always just flash it back to the stock VZW UI that came on the phone and be back in business.

Currently I'm just waiting for my new v9m to show up and I'll be flashing mine also. So if you folks do decide to make the plunge feel free to ask any questions if you run into trouble. One thing I will say if follow hte guide to a T, do not skip around it will causes problem. As long as you do that you should be fine, oh and one other key to making it fully work, have every last backup file it calls for per the guide. If you are missing anything DO NOT flash the phone. The backups are the key to getting everything rolling after flashing it. Peace

I will probably take the plunge also, I have almost all of the software needed to do the flash, etc. I am having a problem locating the qpst software but I am searching for it. Once I find it, and I can set aside enough time I will probably give it try. And your right, there is a vzw flash available to put things back if it should bomb.

Like I said I have done it once already for my buddy and it went really smooth. The only issue I ran into was backing up the MMS file it tells you to get it using RSD general in the backup section prior to flashing. You'll notice in the guide it needs to have an extension as *.mms. If yours wants to save as *.vms it tell you to stop. Really not a problem tho because if you continue to read threw the guide on Mark_V's site he has a generic one linked to download. Then all you need to do is edit it using RSD General again before writing it to the phone. All of this is in the guide just so you know tho.

Quick question where did you download the flash file from? Also which flash are you planning on using. You do know there are 2 different USCC v9m flashes leaked. If I were you, flash it using the usc_v9m_02.0c.12p_prinn13635_monster_01.shx file. Originally they had the guide having you use the first one that was leaked ( the .09 file) but now it has been updated and changed to use the newer flash file.

I wished you or someone liked you lived near me, so I could have them do it for me XD

I'm getting my Razr 2 next year, maybe then I can try flashing my old razr and if I can do that with no problems then I'll have more confindence to flash the Razr 2. But if you say it's pretty straight forward, then I guess it should be easy then.

Actually flashing the v9m is a simpler process IMO then flashing the original Razr. The software needed for use with the v9m is much more user friendly. The only kinda pain in the ars is doing the seem edits because the hacked version or p2kseem we use on the Razr will not read and write to the new Razr 2. So you have to use the newest version of p2kcommander to get the seem. Then open the seem via p2kseem, edit it, save it to disk, then go back to p2kcommander to write the seem back to the phone. Which isn't hard it's just added steps is all.

Well maybe when I get mine in a year it'll change.

What do you get when you do the flashing? Besides a different UI that you don't get when you say just seem edit it?

Well I did mine, and all went well. It is now running the US cellular monster pack and working on Verizon. The instructions worked well and I took my time with it. In fact I did the first steps backing seems and other files up 1 day, and flashed the phone and did the restores the next. My phone works, and txt messaging works. I am able to view txt messages and more using the outside screen, and much more. About the only thing I am trying to get working again is Verizon's get it now. I think it is possible to get that working, do not care about V cast . Have to keep searching and see if thats possible. But all in all very sweet!!!

That was what I was wondering about. Get it now, I like the games that Verizon have. Keep us updated if you find a fix.

Update!!!!

Since I was unable to get VCast or any internet access working after flashing the phone with the US Cellular MP, I re-flashed the phone back to Verizon......for now.

I am reviewing the directions, and doing some research as to what step I missed in backing the phone up, or what settings I overlooked once the phone was flashed to US Cellular MP. I really need to be able to get to Verizon's Get It Now tools(don't care about VCast) once I flashed the phone since I use thier backup assistant to back up my contacts. Without that ability I could not restore my contacts, and I was not about to manually re-do all my contacts. Next time I will back up my contacts manually before flashing. Becuase had I at least had my contacts, I could have lived with the phone as is, until I figured out how to get the data end working.

All in all the process was not bad, and the phone running the US Cellular MP was very sweet. Once I figure out what I missed or did wrong, I will give it another try.

Well folks I went ahead and flashed my VZW v9m over to USCC this weekend. Just to report back I have a fully functioning VZW v9m flashed to USCC with all data ( ie GIN, mobile web, and MMS ) working. The only thing currently not workable that I see is Vcast, which I could personally care less about anyways.

I did not run into any trouble really except for in one area but that was due to my own stupidity. It was fixable after I realized what I didn't do the first go around. So I am now a happy camper with my Motot UI back on the new Razr and still have VZW's services.

no GIN, mobile web, or MMS.... what did you think fixed it for you?
