Hi! I've tried two different methods to use my V3m as a modem. I tried setting up a new network connection using a method found on Hack The Razr: Hack the Razr :: Guides :: Free Wireless Internet . Basically you just set up a new connection using #777 as your dialup number. You're supposed to use [yourphonenumber]@vzw3g.com as your username and vzw as the password. When I try to connect, I get an error message telling me that the username and password are not valid on the domain. I also tried the method posted on the V3m User's Guide site: Motorola RAZR V3m User's Guide : MPTConnect. With this method you connect using Motorola Phone Tools. In your initial setup, you download Fourelle Venturi as a web accelerator. When I use this method, it seems to connect and to locate the websites I want, but pages appear blank. I ran the Venturi diagnostics. It confirms that I can connect to sites, but it cannot download pages from those sites. I HAVE disabled EVDO and I HAVE bumped my data speed down to 14.4. I HAVE enabled the seem for 1xRTT Settings and Service Type. Has anyone run into either of these problems? Have you found a solution? I'm out of ideas. :edit: With thanks to Mark Venture... I went to Mark's pages on the topic and there's nothing there that I haven't already tried. I'm stumped. |

I kept researching this problem and came across a post about tethering to a PDA which gave me a clue. There was something posted about running Venturi in "Explicit Proxy" mode, and I decided to try it. BTW, This applies only if you're using MPT to connect... See the link above, to the V3m User's Guide page, for complete instructions. I'm going to edit the page to include this new info. I went to the Venturi setup, and on the System Control tab, I un-checked "Transparency." This made all the difference. I connected via the MPT "Fall-Back" Internet connection (slower speed). And... it works! I can now connect to sites and view pages on my PC with the phone tethered. DO disable EVDO and DO use the Fall-Back (slower) connection in MPT. According to what I've read, using the slower connection puts you under the radar where Verizon charges are concerned. We'll see when I get my bill next month. |
