V3m external antenna adapter

After getting a new RAZR vm3, I went looking for an external antenna adapter (we live in a valley, and the signal is weak -- we've been using a magnetic external antenna for using our cells at home). When I couldn't find one, I contacted Wilson Electronics, who makes these adapters for virtually every phone. Their response?

"I'm sorry, but the external adapter port on that phone is weak so we
won't be able to develop an adapter for that phone."

Does this make any sense? It seems incredible. Does anyone know of any other options aside from a passive adapter (which doesn't work as well)?

It makes plenty of sense. The particular connector they use isn't made to have anything hooked up to it outside of a controlled test facility.You'd break it within a day or two of regular use.

I agree that it makes sense if the port isn't designed to be used by the end-user. But why wouldn't they make a port that _is_ usable? My previous Motorola (v265) had one, and my wife's 323 has one... I suppose I'm SOL, unless there is some other reasonable option out there that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

The ports on those phones were directly designed to have you hook up an external antenna either they were also designed as test ports. They just happened to use a larger connector due to the size of the phone.

I'm assuming that the VM3 connector is the same as all other RAzrs

My guess is that if the phone connector is so fragile, it was designed more for a car cradle so when the phone is in the car cradle, it connects to a external plug there (after the protective cap is removed). With the phone supported, it can't wiggle and the connection is secure. Goggle around for that item.

However this ad says it does not fit the V3m, but other ads says it does...I would call and check it out

The external antenna adapter for the Motorola RAZR V3m is the 352015.

We have received several inquiries regarding the use if the 352015 for the RAZR V3m. Our engineers tested the adapter on the V3m that we have here and found that when connected to the ARC wireless freedom antenna we saw a 19 dB system gain.

I have a Wilson Electronics external antenna and both a Razr V3m and Razr V3a phone. I'm having the same issue concerning whether to use an external antenna or not.
I've heard that when an antenna adapter is inserted into the port on the Razr's, a mechanical switch in the phone's connector, disconnects it's antenna and then switches it to the external antenna. When the adapter is removed, the switch should reconnect the phone to its own antenna. If the switch does not reconnect the phone's antenna, the phone's junk since it will show reduced signal or no service unless the external antenna adapter is inserted. Has anyone out there used an external antenna with the Razr's successfully?
I also understand the Razr's have a Loose fit concerning the adapter/antenna port connection, is this also an issue?
Bottom line, is it worth chancing and what is the likelihood of the above happening? Does the phones warranty cover damage to the phones internal antenna?
Why wouldn't Motorola make a port that is usable?

i have a razr v3 and i'am useing a mini yagi antenna on the roof of my camp and it works great i have a adaptor like the one in the first link above and yes the connector on the back of the phone is lamb at best, but recently may phone has not been able to get a good signal even in places i know it should thats with out the ext.antenna and now the last time i hooked it up at camp i had know signal at all so i think maybe there might be a little switch inside that go's to hell can i fix it? thanks
maybe a little shot of contact cleaner?
