I just wanted to share my experience with this. I couldn't get my phone recognized to matter what I did. It would not charge the battery or anything. The driver install just wouldn't work. Well, I'm on xp 64 bit and that makes a difference. The driver4.21a install didn't mention that it wouldn't work it just appeared to.

If you download the 64 bit drivers and install them everything works! Thanks cincy for all the posting you did in this thread and others. It was a great help!

Question Re: Getting your V3C/M Connected

Has anyone been able to connect via bluetooth? I have an HP nc6400. When I run MPT it finds the phone goes thru the pairing exercise then pops and error message - "Comm Port Installation Failed" Any ideas?

Load the seem from your phone again and verify that it stuck. Just to make sure u did it correctly, which seem did u change? Also, did you do the seem edit to enable usb data transfer? If you did both of those and can verify, last thing is to make sure you have the newest version of MPT, which is 4.36.

Alright I just got a V3m from U.S. Cellular today and motorola phne tools won't detect it. I have the most updated version as far as i know. I looked in device manager and it says Motorola USB modem. I might be skipping something but I can't figure it out. Just want to make some ringtones for me and the wife, and she'll probably want some cutesy wallpaper...

anyhow, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Just check the version of MPT, make sure it is at least 4.21a, or up to 4.36. Once it is, that should solve ur problem. Also, this post might help -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/432372-post15.html

more importantly, this part of the post

golt MPT today...finally figured out why my phone was not being detected. You need to make sure the connection setting in USB is set on modem...duh....
hope this has helped some.

Ok for some reason now it works. I set it up manually and chose V3c out of some list and it opened up but i don't see an option to transfer things such as ringtones to the phone. Any clues?

Look for MultiMedia Studio. Chances are it wont be there because u selected v3c. Try selecting v3cm or v3mm and see if that helps. Again, as long as ur mpt is at 4.21 or 4.36

Okay! First and foremost - I am technologically inclined, but I am a total n00b about phones... ^^;;

I just got a Red VC3 (Alltel), and saw the USB connection, and confirmed in the instruction manual that it can connect to PC.

I have to track down a mini USB cable (I probably have one around here somewhere) so I haven't actually tried anything yet...mostly because I tend to be fairly cautious when trying something for the first time, heh.

What I am aiming to do is connect my phone to my computer (Windows XP Home SP2) and upload music to be used for a ringtone, as well as possibly images to use as the wallpaper.

From what I understand, I need Motorola Phone Tools to do this...and a driver? (a driver that I, for the life of me, cannot find anywhere on Motorola's OR Alltel's site...)

So yeah...I'm paranoid because I'm totally inexperienced with data transfer and cell phones.

I have read through this thread, as well as threads of other forums, but it's hard to follow to find what I need because I'm apparently in the minority by having an Alltel phone.

Please please please give me a simple list of what I need (specifically), and any considerations.

Please forgive my n00bishness...I can do other tech things, honest!

And this I'm going to call Alltel about tomorrow, but I seem to be perpetually roaming, and I can't set up my voicemail. Thought I'd throw that out there while I'm at it. Heh.

hulyen,

most of what u read is about verizon, although some does apply to alltel.

do u have bluetooth on your computer? if you do, you will not need mpt. your phone would be able to connect to the computer and u can send files (ringtones/pics) to and from your phone. you wouldnt need a driver or usb cable.

if you do not have bluetooth on your comp, then u will need motorola phone tools (MPT), a usb cable, and a driver (it will be automatically installed when u install MPT).

let me know which method you are going to need to use based on whether u have bluetooth or not, and i will be happy to guide your in more detail.

Nope, no bluetooth here.

I have a mini USB cable (somewhere...it's with my misc. digital camera stuff).

So I apparently just need MPT (if the driver comes along with it automatically)...now...how do I go about getting that?

Yea, the MPT costs money to buy. I guess some have found it on the net, but since it only $25, I found it safer and quicker to download from here:

http://www.bvrp.com/ENG/products/mob...r_process2.asp

When it asks for phone model, just select V3. (it all the same program)

When you get to checkout, the price will be $39.90, but I have a discount code for 50% off. It is BVRPUS, and it will bring the price to 19.95. This is for the instant download (since u have a usb cable already). And the drivers WILL be installed on ur machine when initially installing MPT.

This isnt going on a mac is it? If not, you are good to go.

Talking Re: Getting your V3C/M Connected

I just wanted to make one (hopefully) last post in here to THANK everyone who has helped me with my V3m phone...we actually went out and bought the essentials kit and my dad did have to do some small Windows updating on my computer BUT we got it to work --- a little hint for ppl though because it totally got me so maybe it could help others...my dad said when he went to sync the phone the obvious "check your pc connection" error came up but then he hit the start sync button on the WMP10 and the phone re-connected itself to sync to the computer.....I'm just thinking usually we are waiting for the instant "it worked" message that when we see it say "did not work" we immediately think something is wrong.....so if anyone who bought the Essentials Kit is still having problems...keep going on with the step-by-step instructions in that little booklet and try to see if that works. But yea THANK YOU for all your help (especially CindyBall) because now I have more of a technical understanding of how all this works

Cool Re: Getting your V3C/M Connected

Ok I have a FireRed V3M from U.S. Cellular. I've read this entire thread, downloaded the files. Everything shows up in device manager, and the phone charges. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate with WMP11. The thing is, I don't know how to get the files from my computer, to my phone. I cannot find any option in WMP to sync with the phone. Any suggestions? Thanks

You cannot sync the USCC/Alltel razr with WMP. You need to either get a program such as Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) to access the phone's audio folder, or get a microSD card and plug that into a card reader and add mp3's to the card's audio folder. No syncing possibilities on that particular phone (only Verizon can do that).

Sprints Motorols Razr V3M
I discovered WirelessAdvisor after having spent the better part of a day trying to get a Sprint V3m to work with BItPIM using an XP professional OS with a service pack 2 update, to no avail. I have used BITPIM with a Sanyo 2200 for several years with great success.

While a lot has been written on the net, including on WirelessAdvisoor about the ease of doing so, I have not actually encountered / read of anyone I might querry who has successfully syched a Motorola RAZR V3M for Sprint to Bitpim on an XP professional OS with service pack 2 installed.

Yes, there are many comments that it "should" work, but they are not comments that the author has made it work, does so often, including downloading photos, syncing with Outlook's calendar function, uploading and dowloading contacts, and running uploaded Mp3 music files.

Hello:

Ok, so nothing seems to be working for me.

I have Verizon. I have a Motorola Razr V3M. I am connecting to the computer with a USB cable that I use for my camera. My computer recognizes the phone (Motorola USB Modem) so my phone does charge. That's about as far as I've gotten.

1. Syncing to Music - Downloaded the mtpfix. When syncing through the phone, I get "Connect Failure. Please check your cable to the PC". I clicked on Retry many times. It says Version 01.01.008. My PC does have WMP pop up waiting to detect device which it never does.

2. Downloaded Mobile Phone Tools. When it comes up to the Phone Setup, I choose USB. It asks me to turn my phone on and connect to the cable and then connect the cable to the PC. I'm on a laptop so I have a wireless connection. My phone is connected to the PC. What else is missing?

I want to be able to download ringtones and stuff to the phone. Is this the only way? Please help. Thanks.
