Okay, so I tried to go through all the steps, but when I left MSU Open after updating it, and I plugged in the phone, it didn't recognize it. It brought up a box that said something about "Found New Hardware: Your new hardware won't work until properly configured." When I opened device manager it listed the phone as "Motorola USB Composite Device" and had an exclamation point. I tried updating the drivers with no luck. I'm running Windows XP, but I can also use Vista if the operating system makes any difference to any of this.

Also, I got this output from the log of MSU.

[17:06:44 / 100.493] loadLatestDrivers: loading driver section "Commercial FOMA Drivers"...
[17:06:44 / 100.494] SdiDriver: driver package "Commercial FOMA Drivers" does not exist in installation folder -- skipping.
[17:06:44 / 100.495] loadLatestDrivers: could not parse INI section "Commercial FOMA Drivers" -- failure.
[17:06:44 / 100.497] loadLatestDrivers: loading driver section "Electra Drivers"...
[17:06:44 / 100.498] SdiDriver: driver package "Electra Drivers" does not exist in installation folder -- skipping.
[17:06:44 / 100.500] loadLatestDrivers: could not parse INI section "Electra Drivers" -- failure.

Is that a problem? The phone will still charge after following the steps you posted. When the computer tries to recognize it, it first shows the box that says "Found New Hardware": Motorola <phone model>/<phone model>/<phone model>. It never says that was installed correctly, and shows it for less than a second, then it shows "Found New Hardware": Motorola USB Composite Device. That never installs correctly either, but it's the only thing that shows in the Device Manager, and always shows with an exclamation point.

MPT has worked great for me for some time. I recently updated to 4.5 and now my computer will not reconize my phone. I have tryed to update several times, but my Sprint Razor V3m is not on the updated list anymore. It was before, but since the upgrader, it isnt. So I uninstalled MPT, reinstalled it again, and same thing. I should have left the program alone and not upgraded, but my wife did it. Now I'm stuck, and cant get my computer to reconized my phone. som, eone please tell me that they have had the same problem, and this is an easy fix?
Thanks in advance!!!

Hey I was just wondering with my Sprint V3m Could I still sync it with WMP10 even though everytime I click on the music part of my phone it takes me to sprints music webpage. is there a way to get around that without flashing or flexing my phone? I am not that technologically savy and am afraid to ruin my phone...

Thanks so much!

Hi! I have a Verizon Wireless Motorola V3m. I want to be able to get the photos off the camera onto my PC. I downloaded the two files listed above (DriverTool-421a and mtpfix) and installed them. I'm able to see my phone in the device manager. I'm using BitPm (my husband has the same phone, but about 6 months older than mine and this worked fine for him). But BitPim says "The phone is not responding while manipulating the filesystem." What have I done wrong? I'm totally clueless about this. Thanks for your help.

Hi, i'm very new with my motorola v3m razr with verizon as my provider.

I've gotten as far as going to the part where you are able to sync ringtones to your phone in WMP. I select the file and put it into the playlist, press sync and it says "Error: (lots of text in a creme yellow color about how it couldnt' connect)"

what am I doing wrong?

Hi all, I've just gotten a Razr V3m from Alltel. My ultimate goal is to get my favorite .midi ringtone (which I have on my computer) onto my phone. I do have some prior experience using bitpim with my previous LG phone, figured out how to transfer pictures, ringtones, and games back and forth. With the Razr, however, so far I haven't even been able to get to first base (getting the computer to recognize my phone as a USB modem).

When I plug the phone into the computer (in the back, of course), the computer finds the new hardware, recognizes it as a USB modem, but then it somehow ultimately re-identifies it as a USB mass storage device. I can browse folders on the device, but whenever I drag and drop the .midi file into the various audio folders listed, it never shows up on the phone.

I have two USB cords I have tried, on one the phone doesn't even charge. It charges on the other, but doesn't show up in Device Manager as a USB modem. I've run DriverTool-421a.exe, which did put usbsermpt.sys on my computer, but when I try to manually direct the wizard to use that driver, it says it isn't a compatible file. Looks like I can only select a .INF file. I did see USBMOT2000.INF and USBMOT2000XP.INF listed, which I later read a suggestion from Cincyball to try, but haven't yet. But then I also read that if my phone is charging, then the drivers are already properly installed!

Should someone perhaps start a specific Alltel Razr thread? Because from what I've read so far, it seems like alot of the Alltel folks are having problems, with few in the way of solutions.

I don't have bluetooth on my computer yet, trying to keep costs down. Besides which, I'd previously read that USB was ultimately better for transfers. Am I gonna have to go get bluetooth?

Now, I thought there was no point in trying to run MPT unless your phone was charging with the proper drivers already? Be that as it may, I have tried running MPT a number of times on different computers, and it never seems to be able to see my phone. Yes, it is updated to 421a. The version I have refuses to update any higher than that, however, and I am reluctant to purchase a newer version without rock-solid proof that it will work for me.

No syncing possibilities on that particular phone (only Verizon can do that).
Are you sure that will work with an Alltel phone? The computer recognizes it as a USB device when I plug it in, but any files I drop on there seem to go into a black hole.

My computer seems to recognize my phone as a mass storage device already, but it seems like I can't actually do anything with that storage device!

No go. And when I run the drivertool-421a, I just get the same thing Squonk got:

Hey gang, just a follow-up to let you know that I fixed the problem!

It was, naturally, my own fault.

In the Settings > Connection > USB Settings, I had "USB Drive" selected as default, instead of "Modem/COM." Switched default back to Modem/COM, and MPT was able to link up to my phone no problem, and I was able to transfer the ringtone I wanted.

The reason I had USB Drive selected, is when I first began this process, I read in one of the threads where someone suggested setting the Alltel phone up to use as a USB Drive. I tried that, and then didn't realize I needed to switch it back before I did any mods.

Oh, and btw, my Alltel phone connects up while it is switched OFF. Since I switched the default back to Modem/COM, haven't tried with it ON yet, but it definitely does work when it is OFF.

My next goal is to figure out how to transfer video to my Alltel phone. MPT looks like it can convert mpg4 files into something the phone can read, but when I tried to feed the MPT media program a largish mpg4 file (an episode of South Park) it froze up. When I tried a smaller mpg4 file, a sample that came in MPT, it appeared to transfer to my phone with no problems, but then after I unhooked my phone, I was unable to locate the video file anywhere.

I shall now examine the MPT threads in greater detail.

Verizon, Alltel, USCC - V3C/V3M
Connect your phone to a usb port on the back of your computer to avoid conflicts. Run DriverTool4.21a (attached). It will say V3C, and that is fine. Let it choose the driver automatically when prompted. It should install usbsermpt.sys. If it does, it will look like this in Device Manager

If you are not having success with that method, try doing the same method with your phone powered OFF.

Sprint V3M

To the best of my knowledge, the Sprint V3M needs the drivers included in Motorola Software Updater (MSU). The program is free. Connect your phone to the computer, run MSU. It will install 4 drivers. Let it choose the driver automatically for each of them. Once done, MSU should show your ESN, and say N/A for the two entries below. In Device Manager, it should look like the following. Note: You might need to run DriverTool4.21a as well if the process didn't work.

Syncing your V3M with WMP10 (From Mark's Site)

Download mtpfix.zip (attached)
Disconnect the phone from your PC, and leave it disconnected.
Turn your phone OFF.
Shutdown/reboot your PC.
When Windows starts up again, get logged in BUT DO NOT Open/Run/Launch any applications.
RUN the MTPFIX.exe you just downloaded.
Turn your phone on.
Reconnect your phone to a USB port built into your PC.
On the phone, go Get It Now -> Get Tunes and Tones -> Sync Music. Windows may try to install additional drivers... If it does, wait for it to complete, then start Windows Media Player on the PC.

If you have any questions regarding any of what was described above, please post them here.
I am sorry -- I might be the technical idiot of the century, but I have tried to download all this stuff and even googled and attempted to download Motorola Phone Tools (without luck - I ended up with the software updater!). I am not sure what I am doing wrong or if I just don't get it. All I want is the ABSOLUTE easiest way to get ringtones/music and photos on my phone.
Also, I have Ntelos an East Coast cell company. My computer does recognize my phone as Motorola V3m after I install the drivertool (which I have to reinstall each time I restart my computer). I cannot find the device anywhere on my computer though (like in WMP 11.0 or my computer).
Please, please, please help a computer/cell phone dumb girl -- in the least technical language possible
Sorry - so very new to all this!
PS- I have the cord that connects my phone to the computer.

Hi all,
Great forum and hope someone can help!
I followed all the instructions in this thread and here's where I am now.
I have a Verizon V3m, USB data cable, and a Compaq notebook running Windows Vista Home Basic (32 bit). When I connect the phone to the USB hub, the phone says charging, then goes to its home screen with the Battery indicator blinking!! Great!!!!!!
Then I go to menu/get it now/get tunes and tones/sync music........
Phone now says connecting......then Connected!!!!! Wow!!
Then I go to WMP 11 (or VCast Music)(it doen't matter) click on sync music and then ....bummer!! It says I'm not connected!!!!!!!
Repeat all this with the media programs on, and same results.
I click on device mgr/Motorola USB Modem and am told device is operating correctly. Click on diagnostics there and am told everythings OK.
Motorola told me that the driver download loads both 32bit and 64bit Vista data and that connected computers will pick the appropriate drivers.
Any help would be greatly worshiped!!!!
Thanks,
Hugh

Don't think it's ever going to work. Verizon was "supposed" to send this up to a higher level supervisory position to look into the matter.

I am however going to try it on another computer this afternoon and see what happens, regardless I think I am taking everything back as I can see from some of these posts I WAY overpaid for my memory cards and Verizon
"said" they had noted on my account that local management is to take the cards and the software kit back and refund my money. We'll see about that, cause I know I will have a problem there.

Is it supposed to wipe out the modem when you install the fix and then just list your phone showing no modem?
I'm having the same problem, I keep reading how to do it, following all the steps, get it to work as a USB Modem, but as soon as I try the "Fix" the computer stops recognizing it. It looks for drivers again as if it were a new device, etc.

By the way, the MTP stuff works great, thanks! It's just this sync w/ wmp that's killing me!
I'd appreciate some help. Thanks!

Phone(s): Razr V3M ~Silver~

Angry BITPIM and I are NOT friends

Hello to all! I'm a new member of WA but I am no stranger to your forms. *Excellent* reads here which have helped me a lot in the past.

First - here are my details.
I'm running WIN XP Media Center Edition SP2
My phone is an Alltel Razr V3m ~Silver~

Long story short: I've had no problems getting my computer to recognize my phone or my cable. I have successfully connected to P2k in the past with help from PST and have added a few pink skins to my phone, which I adore, but I need to take them off.

My phone is damaged. The screen always says "invalid battery", the silver side keys shock me when I'm talking on it and now the beauty isn't even ringing. Alltel has shipped me a new one.

I used P2K to transfer a few skins and that was the extent of my editing.

There are three skins in total which I have tried to remove. I deleted the contents of the skin folders themselves (via P2k) and the folders disappeared.
Since I'm a big fan of google, I've found many sites, such as WA, which suggest using Bitpim to go in and delete the folders, which are hidden in P2k, but still show up as skin options on my phone menu.

To put it blunt - I'm a tech savvy woman and I feel insulted by the pain in my @$$ that is "getting connected to Bitpim without errors".

I have downloaded and installed Bitpim (numerous times)
I have downloaded and run the drivertool (numerous times)
And I have had no problems with windows detecting the phone and installing the appropriate software.

When my phone and cable are connected to a usb port on the back of my tower, the only way that the usb becomes available to Bitpim is if the phone is turned off. When I try to sync and pull data from the phone, I get a messy error.

When the cable and phone are connected via either of the two usb ports in the front of the tower, I am able to connect, my usb is detected and is avail. to Bitpim, but when I try to pull data from the phone, I get the error (over and over again) that the phone is not responding.

So, my question is... since I have given up on Bitpim, is there any evidence at all that I could get away with selecting (in p2k) that these selected themes *not survive a master reset??

I have already backed up all my data. Phone numbers, pictures, SMS, rintones, etc.

Your help and advice is greatly, greatly appreciated!!!!!
