I use P2K Man software for installing ringtones and wallpapers on my V557 or Razr. Also do a little research there are a couple of files you need to delete after copying ringtones onto the razr. Then you shutdown and re-start the razr and those files are recreated by the software on the phone. By doing this it makes the ringtones show up in the list of available ringtones. If you do not do this step they will show up under media and you will have to assign them as ring tones. Great reference for doing any of this can be found on the sticky at the top of this forum. Go to Jay to the Rescues "reference base for modding phones". Then go to the link posted there http://www.motomodders.net/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=6727 This is Lord Farkward's Noob guide, excellent reference material, and as Jay says required reading. Just be patient, not sure what is up with Motomoders.net latley, but it moves very slow, if at all latley. Happy Modding |

Jay, your preaching to the choir here. I fried my razr by deleting a file in the system directory using P2kman. Your right mobile tools is safer, and I was just pointing out to them to refer to your guide becuase as I said before it is great!!! |

Jay, not sure what happened, I deleted the file in the system folder that controls the menu items that appear when you push the button. Would have changed it from 9 icons to 12. Can't remember the name of the file, has a weird name. Anyway I delete the original file and copied the replacement file into the system directory, re-started the phone and would get as far as the moto logo and stop. Then the display would just go white. Tried turning the phone off, removing the battery, putting the battery back in and re-starting again same thing. Luckily I was still under the return period from Best Buy so I returned it saying it was defective. Picked up another phone this time the V557. I am liking that phone, but do miss the Razr. So I just picked up a brand new unlocked, unbranded Black Razr v3 on E-bay for less than $200.00 should arrive in the next day or so. After returning the razr, more research showed that I might have been able to recover it by re-flashing the phone. I could get it to the boot loader, and did have the flash file but could not find the software to do the re-flash anywhere. That is until I came accross this forum and the link to your guide. So at least if I fry it again, I now know what to do to recover it. Plus I will have the V557 as a back up |

Jay, yup those were the files. I had done it once successfully, that is removed those files and copied new ones in, and I 12 icons on the menu screen instead of the normal 9. All was working well, then while browsing around on another forum, found some new files to change the menu again, to 3d looking icons, cool I thought till I brought the unit too its knees. Going back to the forum where I got the files from and reading addl post turns up the fact that the original files were corupt, and here are new ones |
