Service Expires Nov. 1st, 2009

Have a Treo 650 Palm smartphone locked by my carrier.
Provider has informed me they will no longer be servicing wireless phones.
CAN I JUST HAVE THE PHONE UNLOCKED AND THEN SUBSCRIBE TO ANOTHER CARRIER.

If not, thanks for responding.

Your carrier is/was earthlink wireless, right? If I remember correctly, they were a CDMA carrier. CDMA phones can be "unlocked" but this is no simple task and the carrier you are moving to would probably have to flash the phone. Good luck getting someone to do that for you.

If earthlink wireless is/was a GSM carrier, then they should be able to provide you with the sim unlock code. But again, I think earthlink was a CDMA carrier.

Honestly, I would save yourself from all the frustration and go out and get a new phone with a new carrier. A palm centro on Sprint is only $30.

Earthlink's service operates on CDMA, so getting it to work with another CDMA carrier might be a challenge. It's not impossible, but it's not easy either.
