| MetroPCS has applied for dozens of permits to erect cell sites and join existing tower leases thruout Massachusetts over the last few months. They also are on a hiring binge, looking to hire for an entire region. Am am curious if a new carrier will be able to pull subscribers away from the bigger, more established carriers, such as Verizon and AT&T. TMobile has spent the last two years on a building spree, and they are still a ways behind the big two. Does anyone have any insight on MetroPCS's strategies, since I assume it will be low prices (I can't see how else they will compete for a while)? How do they do in the regions they currently serve? |

| The New England area is a tough area to build out. This should take them a while before they can launch. |

| T-Mobile since 2004 | [humor] [/humor] Seriously, some people who don't want cell towers anywhere near their homes, will be the first to complain when cell signals in the area are lousy...

| Metro also bought some 700 spectrum just for Boston I believe because they couldn't buy a big enough AWS block. I'll bet Sprint livens up Boost Unlimited here before Metro comes online thats what they did in LA. |

| 10 years scandal free.... | I'm surprised to see Metro trying to get started in Boston. Unless they build a solid coverage area, they are going to have a slow start. Verizon seems to be the king in the Boston area, and certainly the king of advertising. The Boston area has been built out over the last 20+ years so I will be curious to see how Metro PCS does in building out and attracting customers. |

Metro seems to come up with tricks that no other carrier ever thought about or tried to use to quickly build their networks. For one thing they came up with the 6 sector azimuth method that really helps boost coverage to more directions than what other carriers use. They also use a microcell system called DAS where they can just slap up a bunch of these small antennas all over the place and apparently they don't need any city permits or hearings. | |
