Smile Cingular GSM in New York City

Does anyone know what is with the Cingular GSM service in New York City? Does it use the ATTicon towers as well as the T-mobile towers? If so, they can use both 850 and 1900MHz frequency.

In addition, why does Cingular market a tri-band Moto V180 phone whereas ATT previously marketed a quad band phone?

    Thanks

They have been opening the AT&Ticon Towers to Cingular users in the NY, NJ area since the merger which will give you the 850 band in this area as well as AT&T's 1900 & Cingular/T-Mobile's 1900 band.
As for the marketing of the V180 if i remember correctly AT&T's listing was wrong, it is a Tri-band & not a Quad band phone.

I have noticed a few areas, track level at Penn Station in particular, where I used to get no or little service where now I get good service. Unfortunately, if the regular Cingular signal is very weak, I have to wait till it fades away to nothing before the phone switches to the ATTicon service which is quite strong.
