Default At&T GSM VS TDMA and Verizon in Westchester, NY

    Hi Folks.

I've got 24 more hours to return my new Samsung X426 and AT&Ticon GSM service. I just "upgrated" from AT&Ticon's TDMA service, and I'm getting more dropout, no svc, etc.

I've heard good things about Verizonicon in Westchester, NY and NYC. Thougts?

Should I just have patience that AT&Ticon Cingular merger will improve things?

    Thanks,

    Michele

Verizonicon WORKS SEEMLESSLY IN NYC/WESTCHESTER ALREADY...why settle for mediocre service with only HOPES of it improving? seriously, just go with Verizonicon!

Well, ATT is close to fully launching a 850mhz GSM network in the NY Metro. Once this is fully deployed, coverage will be excellent and pretty similar to your TDMA coverage. Verizonicon has good coverage as well, but I see no reason to switch. Verizonicon is much more expensive. No coverage is perfect. Despite andyourdone claiming that you'll have seamless service, this is not the case. Service in NYC is pretty good but coverage in suburbs, anywhere, including NY is a toss-up everywhere.

Nice and objective post, GoodmanR. No service is perfect. But if you want to add more load to an already loaded network, go with Verizonicon. Then, a year later, after your contract is over, we will see you coming to the new Cingular.

Another suggestion is to try a different phone, Like a Nokia 6200, 6800, 3200, 3595 or a SE or Moto V600. They have better Rf then the phone you have.

Based on my experiences, if you are having a lot of problems, the phone is usually not the cause. My advice to you is to get the service that works best where you need to use the phone most. Verizonicon has great coverage nationwide, but they have a dead spot in my town. I tried 3 different phones and nothing worked well. So I switched over to AT&Ticon and have not had any problems at all. I am also using the Samsung x426 and it works great.

That's right. Usually problems really aren't the cause of phones. The RF (reception) on all phones is pretty similar. Some might display a different number of bars, but it's rare that you'll find somewhere that you'll be better off on, for example, a t616 vs. a v600
