Maine Residents to Benefit from Major Verizon Wireless Network Expansion

Investing to Stay Ahead of Growing Demand for Wireless Calling, Data
Access, and Music

BERWICK, Maine, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- In a continuing effort to
provide the best wireless service for Maine residents and visitors to the
Pine Tree State, Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable
wireless network, has expanded its network with eleven new cell sites. The
new sites, nine in Lincoln County and two in York County, increase coverage
and capacity as follows:
Lincoln County:
* Boothbay (2 sites): Provides new coverage along ME-27, the northern half
of the town of Boothbay, and into downtown Boothbay Harbor. The sites
connect with the new Edgecomb and Southport sites to the north and
south

* Dresden: Provides new coverage along ME-27, connecting coverage with the
new Wiscasset site to the south and existing Gardiner site to the north

* Edgecomb (2 sites): Provides coverage along US-1, ME-27 the southern
part of Edgecomb, and into downtown Wiscasset. The sites connect
coverage with the new Boothbay and Wiscasset sites to the north and
west and existing Newcastle site to the east

* Southport: Provides new coverage along ME-27 as well as in the downtown
and northern portions of the town of Southport, connecting coverage
with the new Boothbay Harbor site to the north.

* South Berwick: Provides new coverage along ME-236 and ME-4, connecting
coverage with the new Berwick site to the north and existing Eliot site
to the southeast.

* Wiscasset (2 sites): Provides new coverage along US-1, ME-144, and ME-
27, connecting coverage with the new Edgecomb site to the south, new
Dresden site to the north, and existing Woolwich site to the west.

York County:
* Berwick: Provides new coverage along ME-4 and ME-9, connecting coverage
with sites in North and South Berwick.

* Lebanon: Provides coverage into downtown Lebanon, connecting coverage
along US-292 with existing sites in Lebanon to the north and Rochester
to the south.
This network expansion is part of the company's aggressive
multi-billion dollar network investment each year (more than $1 billion
every 90 days), including well over $300 million in New England in 2005
alone, to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless voice and
data services. Verizon Wireless has invested $25 billion -- on average $5
billion a year -- into its national wireless network over the past five
years as part of its commitment to offer customers the most reliable
service available, including wireless data services such as picture
messaging, text messaging, and the company's exclusive V CAST service. V
CAST brings TV, music and other multimedia services to wireless phones over
Verizon Wireless' high-speed BroadbandAccess network. BroadbandAccess
offers customers the nation's largest high-speed wireless broadband
network, operating at average speeds between 400 kbps - 700 kbps.
Strong demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the fourth
quarter of 2005 as the company added a record-breaking two million net new
customers. Verizon Wireless is the leader in wireless customer loyalty. In
the fourth quarter of 2005, the company posted a customer turnover rate of
1.2%, well below the rate reported by the other major wireless carriers.
The company's 'most reliable network' reputation is based on network
studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the
country who inspired the "can you hear me now" national advertising
campaign. These engineers make more than 300,000 call tests monthly on
Verizon Wireless' and other national carriers' networks while traveling
over 100,000 miles a month in specially equipped, company-owned test
vehicles.
About Verizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless owns and operates the nation's most reliable wireless
network, serving 51.3 million voice and data customers. The company has
invested $30 billion in the last six years -- $5 billion on average every
year since the company was formed -- to increase the coverage and capacity
of its national network and to add new services. Headquartered in
Bedminster, NJ, Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon
Communications (NYSE: VZ) and Vodafone (NYSE and LSE: VOD). Find more
information on the Web at http://www.verizonwireless.com. To receive

It's good that VZW will Not Rely on Unicel's Analog Tower
in this Area. because it will be Shut Down.

Default Re: Maine Residents to Benefit from Major Verizon Wireless Network Expansion

From my travels in ME, CDMA coverage is far better than GSM. USC has 100% CDMA coverage on their network, where Unicel still does not.

Analog is still the best, and will NOT be shut down in the boonies until digital coverage is up to snuff, probably far beyond 2008. The real question is how many current phones still have analog capability in 2008. Might have to hold on to some "classic" phones.

When you are 10-15+ miles from a cell tower, GSM is dead, CDMA is spotty, but analog works just fine, mostly due to the higher handset power.

T-Mobile USA
recognized as top business
WATERVILLE -- T-Mobile USA Inc. has kept its promise to employ a major work force in central Maine.

The wireless telecommunications company opened in August at FirstPark in Oakland with 90 employees and already has grown to more than 500 workers.

This commitment to growth is one of the reasons the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce has chosen T-Mobile to receive the Business of the Year Award for 2005. The company will receive the recognition April 26 at the Chamber's 43rd annual Awards Dinner, to be held at the Waterville Elks Club.

"We have been very fortunate in central Maine to have had the opportunity to work with such a top-notch, first-rate organization such as T-Mobile," Kimberly N. Lindlof, president and chief executive officer of the Chamber, said. "The energy and enthusiasm that they have brought to the area has been contagious. They set the bar high for future business attraction efforts. We hope that they will all be as great corporate citizens as T-Mobile."

The Chamber's Business of the Year Award is given annually to a company that exemplifies commitment to growth within the community through an expansion of workforce, major renovations and foresight, and has contributed to the overall well-being of the community.

Brian Brueckman, vice president of Customer Care and general manager of the Oakland center, said the company is honored to be recipient of the award.

"When T-Mobile was choosing their next Customer Care Call Center, they were potentially looking at five states," Brueckman said. "Oakland, Maine, was selected due to the strong Maine work ethic. I am proud of everything we have been able to accomplish here in Oakland. We have been extremely successful with the hiring process and have hired over 500 customer service professionals who travel from 85 different Maine communities."

T-Mobile's 80,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility at FirstPark has a fitness facility, game room, outdoor patio with barbecue pit and cyber cafe.

Employees are offered benefits including medical, dental, vision and life insurance, as well as a 401K and educational assistance.

They work in a team environment where each worker is encouraged and motivated by a coach. Recognition is received by earning various awards.

The company currently is working with Kennebec Messalonskee Trails to develop walking trails around the premises.

T-Mobile USA is part of T-Mobile International and is one of the largest wireless carriers in the world with more than 80 million customers, according to company officials. It is the only provider offering seamless voice coverage on one phone, at one number, in more than 185 countries.

The company, whose North American headquarters is in Bellevue, Wash., has won eight J.D. Power & Associates awards for overall customer satisfaction, customer service performance and call quality performance. T-Mobile has 14 customer care call centers, three financial care centers and two technical care centers.

Tickets to the Chamber Awards Dinner, sponsored by Central Maine Motors Auto Group and MaineGeneral Health, are $45 a person and available by calling 873-3315 or e-mailing info@midmaine chamber.com

I am from Northern New England...CDMA blows GSM away in ME, NH & VT....at least right now. My Cingular phone is useless in my hometown in NH. I am not cheerleading CDMA, it's just a fact right now. GSM will catch up.

Thanks Bobolito I was hoping someone would post that!.
BTW Jones, you are in fact WRONG in regard about the method of Satt fones transmissions anyway, So I feel I need to at least correct the off-topic misinformation for anyone that may have read & believed it:
For your info ,
"CDMA: Code Division Multiple Access ,the CDMA signal provides excellent data and voice capacity through the Globalstar satellite phone network of 48 satellites. The CDMA signal is the foundation for 3G communication services world wide. CDMA converts speech signal into digital format and then transmits it from the Globalstar Satellite phone up to the satellite systems and down to the ground station. Every call over the satellite network has its own unique code which distinguishes it from the other calls sharing the airwaves at the same time. The CDMA signal is without interference, cross talk or static. ....
* Globalstar chose this technology for use in it satellite communication network when Globalstar launched service in 2000.

Quoted from the GlobalComm website:
http://www.globalcomsatphone.com/glossary.html
Both Analog & GSM/TDMA methods were not considered not effiecent enough when the Sattelitte fone system was designed.
