| I have seen posting on legislation to allow cell phone subscriber to keep the cell phone number when switching carrier. I don't know if anyone has an update on that. |

as far as I know, it hasn't been implemented yet. The FCC has constantly been giving them extensions to put it in. It was due last year I think, then this year, and not sure where it stands now. Maybe someone can fill in the details.

November 2003 is supposed to be THE deadline, the final deadline, no extensions, gotta have it done. BUT, CTIA recently filed with the FCC to require WIRELINE number portability as well. In otherwords, they want the FCC to require landline phone numbers to have number portability to wireless providers. For example, if you have a landline phone and want to drop it, they want you to have the ability to keep your phone number even if you go to a wireless provider. It's a great idea, but personally, I see this as just another stall tactic from the CTIA. We'll see... |
