Service question! I'm asking it here, since I trust you people more than I trust the stores... I'd like my mother to have a cell phone, but she doesn't want one in her name. She's convinced she has enough credit to worry about. I'd rather not get her a prepaid phone, because I don't think it's worth the money, and I want her to have constant service without having to worry about the phone shutting off when the minutes run out. Can I order an additional line of service on my account, in my name, with a separate phone number for her? I have AT&T and everyone else in the family has Verizon. Any experience in doing this with either carrier? |

Yes. You can either put it on a family plan or you can have 2 separate lines with separate plans on the same account with any provider that I know of. The only restriction is that some providers (i.e. Sprint) let you only take out 1 line of service if you have poor credit.

Yea either you or another family member can put them under thier name with a seperate phone number. But like jmccrane mentioned, sometimes people don't have strong credit background, so they'll only let you have the one. If you'd like to put her under your name, and AT&T says you don't have strong credit background, sometimes you can argue with them about how you've paid your bills on time, etc etc and they can make exceptions (depending on how long you've had AT&T though). The only difference of her having a phone under your name is that if she fails to pay the bills, you are required to do so and if not your credit will be affected instead of hers. Other than that, no other difference. |

To add a line of service on your existing plan just add $20 to current priceplans and figure that's what you'll be paying. As outlined, yes she would have her own number. |
