I live in the Altoona/State College PA region. I really like the Nokia 8390, but it is only available on the ATT GSM network. They said coverage in Altoona would be spotty. I'm wondering if it would be worth investing in this phone, when the only coverage is very spotty in the entire country. Anyone else have this phone/GSM service? Recommendations?? They said I could do a 30 day trial, but i don't know if it will be worth it. Thanks. |

If it's spotty...don't go with GSM. Wait until Mid 2003 when it's better. For now, stay with TDMA.

I am in State College, PA and the coverage up here has been pretty solid for the most part. Few low spots around the area but I have had it since early december and been pretty happy with it. I can't speak for altoona though since I haven't been down there since I got gsm. My only advice is to give it a try and if its not up to what you need then just get rid of it before the 30 days is up. The only thing it will cost you is the prorated amount of your plan that you use in the 30 days. Good luck! |

Plenty of stores sell the unlocked 8390...heck, check eBay. Every other street corner in NYC has a t-mobile reseller willing to put that contract in whatever unlocked phone you like, dunno about PA...and dunno who mail orders....I'm sure some folks around here can recommend...lovin' the 8390 w/T-Mobile Quote:

if u want to go with a gsm phone, go with the seimens s46 that will get u the gsm and your old tdma coverage as well. all u need to do is to know how to change between the 2 networks. if you go to psu, you will get the seimens for free if its new service or 20 for an upgrade, just take your id into the att store
