Verizon will be launching all digital plans starting for president day weekend. These plans will be for the all digital new phones. I don't know the name of it yet. But you will have a lot more options because it's all digital. Such as sending pics (a610) all that fun stuff. Plus its going to be a lot cheaper then A/C to compete with cingular, mlife, tmobile. There will even me an unlimted plan. Look for that.

It would make sense since I believe the A530 would be a digital only phone. Any Verizon employees know of any such plan yet as far as the specs and pricing?

The timing of doing something like this seems bizarre given that VZW still has large parts of its own network (particularly in the West) that are still analog-only (and the Price conversion here in the Southeast isn't done yet, significant parts of the AC network, especially in the Northeast, are analog-only, etc...) IMO: the left hand (marketing) doesn't know what the right hand (network) is doing... -SC

Hey cowboys, hold your horses. Although I do admit that I don't thoroughly read my email, I do know that we're doing some new promotions. However, I am 90% sure that the plans aren't changing, but we're promoting them differently. (i.e.: more focus on the daytime minutes as opposed to the UNLIMITED NIGHT AND WEEKEND!!!!! minutes). As far as an *unlimited* plan (as in, unlimited daytime minutes), Iâ??d say that's highly unlikely. Verizon won't do it, because they don't have to. People WILL pay 204.99 for 3500 daytime minutes and then 20 cents for each minute they go over. I'm not saying it's not possible, just not likely. As far as a *digital only* plan, I don't see that happening anytime soon, either. Consumer Reports just wrote a great report on Verizon, and one positive thing they said was about the analog, and how advantageous it is in case of an emergency (since analog is analog, no difference between carriers). But again, these are just my hypothesis, so don't run and tell your friends quite yet. I'll post again if I learn more, but I think we can all wait until February. |

Also, if you notice with the AC plans, it requires you to have a tri-mode phone, so I am sure some sort of change would be needed to accomodate new "dual mode" phone customers.

The only change that would be needed is to have a separate digital coverage map.

Dual Band (digital only) = 800 MHz CDMA, 1900 MHz CDMA Dual Mode (digital & analog) = 800 MHz CDMA, 800 MHz AMPS (analog), 1900 MHz CDMA Verizon is about to introduce new dual-band (digital only phones) that will support digital and PCS networks only. They will not support analog. We're not talking about the old phones that did not support PCS since Verizon no longer carriers them. Dual-Band phones will be controversial on the AC plan since the "red areas" on the AC plan include analog service which dual-band phones wont work in those areas. They cant sell you coverage in an area in which you won't get so they would have to introduce a national digital plan because they do not want to shrink their current AC maps to eliminate analog areas.

JLM, you are correct. Also, the FCC mandates Verizon to keep their analog areas running until 2008 (where there is no digital service) so I would think they would still have to carry a few tri-mode phones until 2008.

So then Cingular it is--- a fully digital GSM network, with analog fallback, worldwide roaming, better rate plans, cooler phones.... have you guys seen the 6590i yet?!?!?! hot damn! Seems odd that the largest analog provider in the country is not selling analog phones anymore- dropping to dual band, while Cingular is coming out with 5 band phones, worldwide roaming, and better rate plans. hahahahahhaa..... Cingular doesn't have worse coverage. Back to Verizon. I welcome the all-digital plans. In MA, there is no analog coverage where there isn't digital coverage. It makes no sense for me to pay more for an analog-roam option when I will never be in an analog area. Their coverage will not be better than it is now (other than routien upgrade stuff). It isn't going to expand overnight. This may be a problem for some people that buy these phones and travel the country because, although Verizon and CDMA are good in the northeast, there are a lot of places in the country where there is no/poor CDMA coverage. They will issue a new map (I'm sure), but customer response to it may be poor. There is nothing that says that any company has to continue selling analog capable phones. The FCC req., which was rolled back to 2005, only requiries them to continue to support analog technology. They don't have to sell it to new customers. They only have to keep it available for current customers and roamers. |

Verizons coverage in rhode island is much better than cingular. cingulars coverage is closer to sprint and t-mobiles coverage. i keep comparing them side by side and cingular doesn;t match up to Verizon. not yet and probably not anytime soon.

I know for a fact there has been deadlines set for VZW to convert analog areas in this vicinity. Some as little as two weeks... as late as May. There's a reason they are setting deadlines to convert to CDMA, this is something new in the making.

True, Cingular service isn't good in RI.... but in CT cingular is king... and Verizon has MANY areas still on analog......! they are about to do some damage to Verizon's empire at least in ct----! Here in CT we will beat them with-> rate plans, capacity, coverage, phones, customer service, and customer satisfaction.....! Jay. |

Verizon added 964,000 customers in the 4th quarter of 2002 where cingular lost 121,000 customers. I wonder how many of them are now with Verizon. i wonder how many customers they will lose this quarter. cingular rocks at losing customers.

Well, if they ARE coming out with these new "all digital plans" the coverage map would probably look something like this. Now, keep in mind, this is only a pre-pay coverage map (I'm not sure why the coverage would be differnt) but the map DOES break down the differences between analog, digital, and PCS. Helps you decipher a little better the coverage. I wish they'd do a breakdown of their regular America's Choice map that way, but I guess that's close enough.

One question. My old plan, single rate east, had 3000 free nite/weekend minutes for life. These new plans don't say anything about "for life". Does that mean that at the end of my two year agreement on Am choice, I'll lose the nite/weekend feature?

I just got one of the current VZW unlimited N&W plans, and it says for life. The only carrier I ever dealt with that had promotions that ended was AT&T. Inevitably my bill would jump, and I would call only to find out that my 1-year promotion "had ended," without any reminder notice of course. That's why I left AT&T.
