I have Verizon Wireless service and I want to forward my calls to voice mail (without shutting the phone off). I know that I can forward calls to another number by using *72 plus the 10 digit phone number (and then *73 to cancel the forwarding) but when I try to put *72 plus my 10 digit cell phone I hear something that sounds like a siren and it fails to forward. When I successfully forward it to a number I get a brief stutter dial tone sound and then it hangs up. I've also tried *71 plus the number and that didn't work either. I have an LG TM510 but I don't think the type of phone makes a difference. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

When the phone rings don't answer and it will go to your VM.

with the LG, when the phone rings, press the side volume buttons, once to stop the ringing, twice to end the call and send it to your voicemail

Thanks guys but I already know about those 2 methods. I actually found out that the volume buttons send calls to voice mail by accident when I pressed one while trying to get my phone out of my pocket. Anyway, what I really want to do is to be able to have the phone on so I can either send/receive text messages or surf the web but have calls automatically goto voice mail without having it ring or have to press the buttons. Because if I'm surfing the web and a call comes in and I'm pressing one of the buttons, it will answer the call.
