I just switched from T-mobile (losers could never get my bill correct in 4 months).. to AT&T.
With my T-mobile account I could always SMS AT&T customers and other T-Mobile folks but for some reason always had an issue with a friend in Houston, TX using Cingular.

In switching to AT&T I thought the problem would correct itself... but the same issue stands.

She could SMS me.. but when ever I responded, she never recieved the SMS. She recieved SMS messages from the Cingular web site.. and other people.

Right now, both carriers (AT&T and Cingular) are blaming each other. Anyone had similar issues with AT&T or T-Mobile with SMS's to Cingular ?

I'm using a Ericsson T39m with GSM... could it be the fact she is using non GSM equipment under cingular ?

I'm on AT&T TDMA and was never able to sms non-AT&T phone. I guess with GSM you can do that. Just curious if you can sms any GSM phone, even in Europe.

SMS has nothing to do with TDMA, GSM or CDMA. As far as ATT goes, they were the first to open their network to cross-carrier SMS messaging. I have successfully done this without any problems. If you are having problems it may be related to other issues. When calling 611 ask for the technical support department and see if they can help you.
