How about the Mt. Laurel-Medford area?

For this area ATT is the best.

At least you're not blindly steering him in the wrong direction.

T-Mobile is so-so around here. A friend of mine has a Danger Sidekick on T-Mobile and I think his service in Middletown is acceptable.
AT&T doesn't even have a network here. You would be roaming on Cingular's network. Coverage isn't bad, but not as good as Verizon.
Verizon is the best here; one of their main home cities is Long Branch.

What area? If you're asking about Middletown/Red Bank, AT&T TDMA is practically non-existant. Roaming is on Cingular.
Mt.Laurel, no idea.
