Default early termination fee

i saw the posts on early termination fee avoidance, and i want to get in it too! I'm trying to switch from ATT to voicestream. I signed up two months ago and ive changed my plan twice, and each time my contract gets extended. Also, ATT doesnt seem to be able to compete with voicestreams shared plan, which is the type of plan i need. I have two v60t phones with ATT, that i bought through buy.com, i was wondering if i could possibly email/call att and tell them i'd like to cancel the contract and return my phones, in exchange for no termination fee. OR if anyone knows of any price changes that might affect my contract so i wouldn't have to pay the termination fee? Also on a side note, i received my first shared plan bill with ATT and they charged me taxes on one line for $6 and taxes on the second line for $6, and then taxes for both lines for $10 (not exact amounts). I feel like they are over charging me with the taxes. But i called them up and the customer rep told me that they have no idea why i get charged so much, but that they know that is the way the government does it. Is this true, or did i get overcharged?

Sometimes local/state governments have funny tax rules. I admit that is a lot for taxes though. As far as jumping the contract ship, you have a lot of time left on your contract. You don't have a great argument either way, b/c if you were unhappy they'd point to their original 14 day (or whatever) return policy. You're probably not going to get out of this without paying a termination fee unless you get very creative.

You're going to be stuck with liquidation damages for buy.com if this account is closed, on top of 175$...

on a rate plan of 59.99 the taxesshould be approx 6$, a 70$ plan the taxes should be approx 7$. these are for pa. i know ny is higher. check your plan. if you are over and say you used an extra 100 minutes there will be tax on that also.

Liquidation damages? You mean if the phone is returned to buy.com ? If you cancel the account with ATT, what does that have to do with buy.com?

Do you guys think, if i was overcharged for taxes, that is grounds for cancelation of my contract without termination fee? My plan is $59.99 and after taxes it is $82.

That depends. Did they give you a cigarette when they were done?

Read the fine print, you'll be hit with liquidation damages for returning the handset used (generally over 30 minutes) , along with the termination of the carrier contract. With regards to the latter, dealers/online dealers generally have a clause which requires you to remain within the same price category, without downgrading, for at least 6-7 months for their commission to be fulfilled..
