I have a friend who is coming to US (ME and MA) from abroad for a couple of weeks. He has a compatible GSM phone, and would like to use it with a local carrier (instead of paying $$$ for roaming). ATT and Cingular don't seem to cater for this type of clients. I can find companies on the net who sell prepaid SIM cards with 80-10 minutes for ~$100, but it doesn't look like a good deal to me. Are there any better options ? To think of it, GSM is not essential. What's the best way to buy mobile connectivity in (North-Eastern) US for a couple of weeks ? |

If you don't need GSM you can try www.pharosint.com for CallPlus service. Their phones and rates are reasonable, no extra roaming charges in U.S. or Canada. There is no extra charge even for many international calls! The Ericsson phone should have good RF (I have similar). You can get a Massachusetts 508 or 617 area code number for it. Good Luck.

T-mobile has SIM cards. Here are the rates: 25$ 100 minutes expires after 30 days 10$ 30 min 15 50$ 250 min 60 100$ 500 min 60 Also, if the card is about to expire and you still have unused minutes you can buy another card and transfer them there. So, if your friend stay like for 40 days, he can buy a 25$ card and then a 10$ card. Also, I think there is a prepaid kit he has to buy the first time for 30$. Why don't you ask T-mobile? |

Thanks, www.pharosint.com looks like a good fallback solution.

Thanks for the advise. T-Mobile doesn't seem to advertise this, though (want to sell more phones, I guess). I'll try to get some info from their 800 number first. |
