do the cingular stores (the official ones anyway) offer free firmware upgrades for phones? or am i supposed to call nokia? just got my 6161i today, and the firmware is from like...1999. i'm hoping that a fw upgrade would add some more features that i'm missing...like transferring ringtones and that type of thing. thanks!

You have to send your phone to Nokia. They will do this for free as long as you tell them a story about the phone is misbehaving. Just pay for shipping the phone to them. They are in FL. However, ask them first if there's firmware newer than what you have. The 6161 is an old phone and it is out of production so I don't think they are releasing new firmware for it anymore.

Some of the bigger stores may have an engineer come in every so often to do firmware upgrades, check with the stores in your area to find out when. Also, you can go directly to a Cingular service center to get it done, if you're lucky enough to live near one. You can call customer service to find out where they are.
