I have Cingular Wireless in the Boston area and I am looking to buy a new phone. How do I know which of these two phones I should buy? Motorola V60g (GSM) or Motorola V60t (TDMA) |

well that depends on how develpoed cingular gsm is out in your area. i have cingular gsm but i have the v60i with cingular gsm. i did have the v60g before that and even before that i had the v60t. the better phone is the v60g. it has more features and capability. but you may get better reception with the tdma phone. Cingular wireless gives you 15 days to return your phone with no questions asked as long as the phone is still in "like new" condition. Try out Cingular gsm first. gsm is the better technology to go with and also you will get more minutes with cingular gsm. if the reception is not up to your standards then go with tdma. and just wait a while till there are more gsm towers in your area.

There is no Cingular GSM in Boston right now, only T-Mobile. (maybe AT&T too)

thats not all that bad either my cingular gsm phone is using t-mobile towers becuse on the spot i live in in jersey. t-mobile just did a big expansion over here and my phone works everywhere. cingular also has plans for a buildout of 200 new gsm towers by early next year.(jersey, and NY) as far as new tdma towers ummmm well no such luck. tdma is SLOWLY phasing out and gsm will take it over. t-mobile should be just as good as cingular. because i use t-mobile towers where i am. and reception is fantastic. just remember you may not have as many towers as jersey does so reception my not be so hot. again my suggestion is to try out GSM first it is without a dought the better system to be on.

I live on the N. Shore of Boston and I am in the same situation. I broke my phone which is Sprint cuase it doesnt work in the house of all places and got sick of dropped calls. Now there is this whole issue with GSM and what carrier to go with. I am interested to know the difference between the v60g and the v60i... does the "i" support TDMA and GSM? I def want the v60 but want to stay with the newest network. Ahhhhh... very daunting. Especially for a recent graduate without a job and little money.

Well V60g and V60i are basically similar. Both are GSM phones 900/1800/1900 bands capable (T-mobile, i think for the other carriers V60i is not GSM). The magor difference is that V60i (Tmobile) comes unlocked while V60g is locked. Unlocked means that you can use the phone with any carrier you wish. In addition V60i supports Java applications, has changable faceplates, more durable antenna. with a T-mobile plan V60g will cost you around 100$, whille V60i around 200-250$, but the prices change all the time, so if you wish you can check with a T-mobile AUTHORIZED (becarefull) dealer.

thanks for the quick response and feedback. why do you say becareful for T Mobile dealers? Cause of the sparse coverage? i have been doing the research then found this site and looked at people around my area and everyone says good and bad things about every carrier and the GSM. I guess this whole process is a crapshoot. I guess I wont buy one today and wait till' tomorrow. I am gonna just talk to vendors face to face and feel 'em out. ATT are dinks on the phone... the guy didnt even care I was interested... sounded like a kid... saying just yup yup yup.

I wrote that because when i was out there asking questions to different stores everybody gave me a different answer, and the prices was really high. Finally i found a store that had only T-mobile products. i bought V60i with a 20$ plan for 100$(after rebates), when at other places they was asking me for 300$ with the same plan
