Default Nextel questions

I currently have Verizon but at the end of the month I am going to cancel my service with them because every month there are error's on my bill and I'm tired of having to look closely at my bill each month. Don't understand why there are so many errors. I am happy with their coverage and plans but can't handle the bills.
Yesterday I signed up with Nextel. The man who signed me up said that the plan I got (optimizer 900) had a promotion of free nights and weekends and no long distance for the life of the plan. ( other words...for as long as I have the plan) I called Nextel about something else and questioned if the promo was for the life of the plan and she said NO that it was only for a year. Then I called the store back and told them what she said and he was adament that what he said was right and is now trying to get in touch with his sales rep to see what he says.
Does anyone here know the answer?

Also, how is nextel as far as service coverage etc... this is all new for me. The plan I have with verizon is the national plan with NO roaming at all.

Would love to hear honest feedback about Nextel. I'm wondering if I made a mistake in signing up.

Default Nextel questions

i have no idea what nextel's policy is now; however just a few months ago nextel changed it's nights and weekends start time from 8pm to 9pm- EVEN FOR EXISTING CUSTOMERS in CONTRACT as well as changed to the second billing (which was a real great feature of Nextel's) to rounding up to the nearest minute billing for most plans and also for all customers IN CONTRACT on the plans affected. so i have no idea if they are now rectifying that situation by grandfathering plans. nextel's plans can be real good and i am sure they have learned from their mistakes in changing stuff in contract. try calling some sort of executive services department in nexxtel see if you can get the right answer.

Default Nextel questions

Just to let anyone who might be interested, I finally got an answer about my plan and the Optimizer plans with Nextel DOES include nights and weekends plus long distance for the LIFE of the plan. That was verified with corporate headquarters and it is on my plan. This special is only until September 12 so if anyone is interested I encourage them to get in on it.
Just thought I would update on my question.

Well I'm learning about it myself but they have different types of plans. The plan I got was the optimizer plan (900 minutes) (which gives 900 minutes for $79.00) Was is so appealing about this plan is that if you sign up on or before Sep 12, you get free nights and weekends and free long distance for the life of the plan. I haven't found a deal like that anywhere!
The optimizer plans start at 450 minutes and go up to 2500 minutes. If you are really interested, contact a Nextel dealer in your area but if you want the promo, you need to do it by Sep. 12.
BTW....so far service has been great and my phone has had full towers.

I hope that you continue to get good service. Once you leave a major meto. area, you are then carrying an expensice paper weight. Also beware of the customer service. They are the worst.

good in metro areas, not everywhere else. I live in staten island which is 1 of the 5 broughs of NYC (a major metro area), once you leave Manhattan, the service is horrible.

Well i think it really depends on the area. I don't live in a Metro area and had my phone in a rural area today. The reception on the Nextel was MUCH better than my verizon phone.

To each his own. I have used Nextel in metro and non metro areas and i have had no problem. I went on vacation in the mountains of Vermont and i had a signal. Their cust. service is very good, they do have their share like everyone else of the occasional clueless cust. rep.

I don't think its as simply as metro areas. Kingsport, TN isn't exactly a major metro area and I've heard from 2 people that Nextel is good around here. I've never used it myself but a friend of mine said he use to have them and the service was flawless.

Nextel like any company is good in some areas and bad in others.
