Having heard a lot of complaints about the fact that Verizon never gives decent discounts, I was delighted to spot one today at The Wiz (57th St & Third Ave., NYC). They sell v60i for $149 with $50 mail-in rebate from Verizon. Sounds like a nice offer compared to Verizon's own price of $249 on the very same phone. The catch? There are two, actually: - no grace period. They claim, all sales are final. I'm not sure it's legal actually... Especially considering that AMEX I used gives an extra window for returns. - An additional (to $179 fine from verizon and $149-$50 price of the phone) $300 fine when you cancel your service in less than 181 days, which they claim is used to cover the actual $399 phone price. They kept showing me their own sticker with that price as a proof. )) Anyways, I decided to bite the bullet (my Sprint plan is pathetic and my phone is about to give in). Good luck to everyone who's gonna do the same. |

All those conditions bother me. How about if you get a defective phone - which is not unheard of. Personally, it looks to me like the Wiz and Verizon are both "dumping" the 60i using both rebates and discounts. Why? Either they're having "problems" with this phone and/or new, improved phones are VERY close to being introduced and the 60i will be yesterday's news very shortly. |

Cool good deal. We don't have any Wiz's around here (DE, Philly) but it doesn't matter. I doubt it would apply to FREEUP anyway!

Just got off the phone with a KNOWLEDGEABLE rep at Motorola. YES, there will be a v60e CDMA coming out, perhaps as soon as 3 months from now. It will have 1x data speed capability. Rumors, unconfirmed by this rep, also indicate a 2-line external display, and a color internal display. Your speculation about the v60i being yesterday's news may be right on target. Also note how LITTLE fanfare the rollout of the v60i had. We know the 120e is here soon too....Maybe the "E" is the REAL next big thing? |

A V60e... in three months? I think There are more chances I will get pregnant before that phone comes out. (Obiviously I'm a guy!)

Well, I guess based on the fact that v60i is "old news" in our fast paced world, I have to rather wait for one of the pie in the sky phones with a color (sic!) display and (gasp!) BREW tic-tac-toe game!!! The mere fact that v60i wasn't announced last week speaks for it not against. According to my research, v60 is one of the best Verizon phones. Why should I opt for useless gizmos sacrificing proven quality? Of course, 1xRTT is nice, but in no way I'm going to use this phone as my ISP replacement. Therefore a very occasional 56kbps connection is just what I need... |

The conditions are normal. Anytime you buy a cell phone from a third party vendor they give you a better deal b/c they get a commission. Ifyou cancel before 6 months, they probably get screwed on the commission. Its an understandable trade off - most peeple stick out the contract a year anyway to avoid the fine from Verizon (sprint, att etc). I am sure if the phone is defective within the 1st 30 days the wiz would exchange it and after that pay the $4 a month equipment assurance

1. The no trial period thing....sounds VERY shady. Every non-company dealer i have ever talked to about phones still gives you the companies standard 15 days. 2. The additional $300 for cancelling in thye first 6 months is STANDARD in NYC for EVERY non-company wireless dealer for EVERY carier, and for EVERY phone. (Yes i have asked around, and yes i have been told the same thing time and time again by all the dealers i have been to.) The fact that the Wiz is doing this does not suprise me. |

I have to respect what Mr. Rogers said. It is true that RadioShack can't offer loaners (nor can any other non-Verizon owned entity). However, RS does sell more wireless phones that ANYONE else. We always made sure customers understood that an in-warranty repair would leave them without a phone for up to 2 weeks (6-8 weeks is a large overstatement). Most people did not care because they told me at least that we were more helpful, and that our phone/accessory deals were better. RS phone prices don't change whether you sign a 1 or 2 year contract. I should mention I am a former RS employee, not a current one. I worked there up until the end of August. |

well let see mr rodgers, i could pay $99 for v60i at the wiz (after rebate) or $199 at Verizon (after rebate). If I scrap the $4 a month purchase protection - I save myself $192 up front. I'd rather save the $192 uprfront and if something happens to go wrong I have plenty of friends with old verizon phones I can use as backup while Motorola services its product under its warranty. Oh yeah - and there's the $50 deductible that Verizon charges on top of the $4 month. That's $242 I have to play with to get a new phone just in case. I'll take my chances at the Wiz. Another thing I have to say about Verizon is they dont let any resellers make any money - everyone sells att, t-mobile sprint - but verizon authorized retailers are rare - while verizon does have the best service (reception wise - definitely not customer service) they do lose a lot of potential customers because of the lack of competition of their dealers and the high price of their phones... |

I just took the plunge and went for thw wiz deal. Goodbye Sprint P.Crap.S . PS. I just called to cancel my Sprint service and when the lady asked me why I said because the service is horrible and she didn't even try to argue with me - she just said I understand and I'll cancel your service for you. The only thing I'll miss is the nughts starting at 8:00 pm, that was nice. |
