Default United States Cellular

I have contacted Verizon in regards to a new cell tower in construction in Dingman's Twsp., Pike County PA, as to whether it will contain Verizon signals...I cannot currently receive or sent from my phone, (No signal) They tell me they don't cover Pike or Wayne Counties in PA because of FCC regs.. They tell me the tower in construction is for "United States Cellular" I never heard of them. I don't believe Verizon because I can travel 13 miles away, within Pike county and get a pegged 5 on my phone....Can any one help with a company that can cover Pike and Wayne Counties in PA......I work these areas and am at a loss for communications. There are no phone booths in the woods.....Thanks

They are correct, if a company doesn't have a liscence to serve an area(your area in this case), by law they can't offer service there. What you are probably picking up on away from your home is a Verizon tower in another county or area. And US Cellular is the 6th largest wireless carrier in the US. With a local plan, you can roam onto their network at no cost to you.

Hey Joe, I see your dilemma....I checked with Sprint PCS and according to them they have a tower in Dingman's ferry. So, you might want to check them out...!!!

uscc plans and maps

hey joe,
if you are talking about a rural area you are probably going to have to stay with Verizon or a 800mhz carrier, but I don't really know if Verizon has a roaming agreement with us (US Cellular) up there. I know that we are B channel in that area and I don't know what Verizon is there. We don't cover alot of PA. Mostly in WV,VA and NC around here. Sprint really isn't great in rural areas but thats why they call them rural areas though. Go talk with Verizon and see what kind of plan they have that can roam on US Cellular around your area.

Currently, US Cellular is licensed in Bedford County only. You would need to have a billing address in Bedford County to establish service with US Cellular. The tower mentioned is not a US Cellular tower. The two carriers in that area are AT&T (Suncom) and Alltel. You might want to see if Verizon offers a roaming agreement with those companies.

US Cellular has 3.5 million subscribers, but I don't think they're the 6th largest. I would at least put Verizon (29m), Cingular (22m), AT&T, Sprint (16.7), Alltel (7.4m), Nextel (7.2m), and VoiceStream (7m) ahead of them. There's still room left between 7 million and 3.5 million, so there may be others. VoiceStream could be iffy, but I don't think they've lost half their customers...

The 6th largest Wireless provider in the US is VoiceStream with 7.5 million subscribers and ALLTEL after the pending merger with CenturyTEL will be at a close number 7 with 7.4 million. I think those numbers are right.
