Default Western New England on T-Mobile

So I was in Western Mass. this past week, doing a lot of running in Deerfield, Whately, Northampton, Sunderland and Amherst.

T-Mobile has some work to do. My phone worked fine in Northampton and Amherst, but in Whately, Sunderland and Deerfield there was little to no coverage, and only in certain spots that were higher than others.

On Sunday I drove up I-91 to Brattleboro, Vermont. As soon as I crossed the border into Vermont, my phone was as dead as a doornail. I did a manual search and came up with nothing. As I crossed the bridges into Hinsdale, N.H., my phone flashed for a moment, but then went back to being dead.

In Brattleboro Center (Vt.) and in Keene Center (N.H.) my phone picked up USA-890, which is Unicel/RCC, but it was obviously only one small site in each town because the signal was gone even before I'd properly left the city centres. In Brattleboro I couldn't even get a signal standing in the parking lot of the Price Chopper on Canal Street (the main drag through town). In Keene I had to be within sight of the town common, which makes me wonder where the tower is. In Hinsdale I had no coverage (and also couldn't get to the Wal-Mart, thanks very much Charley for collapsing its roof).

Coverage was very good in Holyoke (at the Ingleside mall), in Springfield (we had lunch in Di-ckinson Street) and of course the signal was perfect at Bradley Airport.

I didn't see any fire or brimstone in Connecticut, but I'm sure it was there somewhere because Connecticut is Hell and Hell has to have fire and brimstone.

Western Mass. is not T-Mobile territory or PCS for that matter. Cingular and Verizon are the kings in those areas.

I had a surprising experience with T-Mobile at a home in suburban Baltimore last week. I have ATT/Cingular, my friend has Verizon, and our other friend has T-Mobile. With ATT, Cingular, and Verizon we were barely pulling in any reception - 0 to 1 bars and even no service much of the time. My friend with T-mob was pulling in 2-3 bars even in the basement. Surprising.

When people say that is surprising that shows how low general expectations people have about T-Mobile.
