Default USA calling Canada

I have US Cellular as my network and I can get shared talk for 15.00 more a month. (shared talk is adding a 2nd phone to my plan & sharing the minutes.) I was thinking it would be cool to send the 2nd phone to my friend in Vancouver Canada (BC) and that maybe when i called her from my own calling area that it would not be a toll call as I am calling the phone that is attached to my plan.

example.. >>> my number would be 888 8888 and hers would be 888 8889. Would I be charged to call that cell phone when it's in Canada? How would my cell know where that cell is??

Does anyone know how how that would work?

Not as well as you hope. The second phone you'd add would be roaming, at additional expense, in a foreign land. I only found the short description here.

How does your current plan treat roaming in Canada? Most likely, some price per minute without using your included plan minutes.

when i call her i get charged 19 cents per min.. but her network is telus and i dial the BC area code & her number.. if she had my 2nd phone & i called her i would dial my own area code.. i would not have her call me, as i know it would be roaming from BC to my homeland.. but i am not roaming when i call ppl from my homeland.. hummmmm i was hoping..?

You wouldn't be roaming, but your 2nd phone in BC would be. Even though it has a US phone number, the cellular carrier that your 2nd phone would be using is in Canada which means it would be roaming. You would get charged roaming rates that US Cellular has in place with that BC carrier. I hope this helps ...

Basically it's going to be insanely expensive due to the roaming charges the phone in Canada will incur, so don't do it.
