Default Verizon: VoiceMail is In-Network? Yes and No.

I just changed my contract to include the unlimited In-Network (M2M) feature. I wondered about VoiceMail, whether that was considered In-Network or not so I put out an email question and here is the response I received:

"If you access your voicemail by dialing *86, the call will not be free,
however if you access your voicemail by dialing your mobile number
it will be considered an IN-Network call"

I must confess that I was rather taken aback by the answer. Shouldn't both be the same?

I can't reprogram the "1" speed-dial on my Audiovox 8900 but I programmed another speed-dial to call myself. Doesn't seem to be any difference in function or time to answer, it just uses minutes that are unlimited.

Did you get that response from Verizonicon online support? I ask because there's a message in my latest bill that says IN network (mobile to mobile) allowances will not be used when checking voicemail from my phone. It says that whether I use *86 or not, if it's during the day, it's coming out of my peak allowance.

Yes, put in an email question yesterday and got the email response today that *86 is not In-Network but calling your own number is In-Network.

Thats absurd. Would it really be that hard for them to just bill it as in-network, the fleecing of customers like that is really absurd.

Wow that is odd. When it was 1000 m2m minutes I was told by CS that calling voicemail no matter *86 or your number was m2m minutes.......

On the new "in network" unlimted m2m, they are indeed making voicemail calls peak, instead of m2m. That sucks and is pointless. Ugh, another reason to be angry with Verizonicon. I think it will be retroactively applied to all plans soon. Someone got a notice about it with their bill.

Hmmm..I will have to check about that on my next bill. I think that may be by market too.

Well the bill message had the wording "in the interest of national uniformity", so I think they're doing this to avoid different rates from market to market. Personally, I don't understand the big deal. Really, I'm not saying that just to throw gas on the fire. Every other service provider does exactly the same thing. Verizonicon is just catching up with them (like they do with everything else).
