Default Cell phone getting a dial tone?

OK...i have come accross this 'issue' several times. Every now and then, when i pick up my phone when it is ringing, i get a dial tone. Is this a network error of some sort? Does it have anything to do with an overloaded tower? (I have had this issue in several different places)

Sounds like some glitch in the switch. I had that happen to me once, but I heard the dial tone after I dialed a number.

Default Cell phone getting a dial tone?

This happens to me often, mostly when I am on extended network (USCC) with my Verizonicon phone. I will dial a number and get like 3 short interval dial tones and then it will connect. Or I will answer my phone and I will get a short dial tone. What is this?

I get a 2 or 3 short bursts of a dial tone sound on my phone when placing a call. That is an indicatior telling you of unheard voice mail.

That's called stutter tones. Normally, it indicates you have new voicemail. But some other times it can be tones between the switches communicating with each other which happens sometimes when you are dialing long distance.

With Verizonicon, when you are using call waiting and the other person hangs up you hear a dial tone for a sec
