Ok FCC does show all registered towers in all areas of the US Antenna Registration As far as major companies Sprint is the only one I know that show their towers Sprint Tower Map You will need Java plug-in to see the map Many companies got rid of showing where their towers are, due to the increase in vandalism to wireless towers. Sites are registered with the FCC regardless of the antennae mounting structure.

Not necessarily true. Depends on their height placement on the structure. If a building mounted antenna site (ie. mounted at 75' on a 150' building) does not exceed the height level of the building than it would not be required to be FCC registered. Here in Southern California for example most sites are not FCC registered and would not show up on that web site. I believe that any site less than 200 feet does not have to be FCC registered.

I think what emag meant was that it doesn't matter if it is mounted on top of a building. If the building is over 200 ft. tall, they will have to register it with the FCC. Less than 200 ft. they don't have to. The structure where it is mounted does not matter. What matters is the height.

Mountain Wireless cell site finder The only cell sites that MUST be registered with the FCC are the ones that define the edges of a Cellular Geographic Market Area. If they build any sites within that area that do not change the overall coverage of that carrier, the FCC doesn't care. Also, PCS (1900 MHz) carriers have no obligation to register any sites. They do have to show a minimum service level, but the sites in that showing are not revealed by the FCC. If a tower is required to be registered, cellular or otherwise, it needs to be registered with both the FAA and the FCC, but the tower's owner, more likely than not, is not the carrier itself. -Bill

That's odd because I have yet to see a building or rooftop mounted antenna registered with the FCC here in the So. Cal area. They're all freestanding towers. I still don't think those are required to be registered. Can you show me some examples? But anyway I think Bill Radio's info shows that not all sites have to be registered with the FCC so that web site is not an accurate way to find site locations.

Probably in CA it is like that because of the earthquake regulations they wont put them on buildings more than 200 ft. Only in freestanding towers. Check this FCC record. The structure type is listed as "Building with Tower" http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/AsrS...?regKey=609099 There are many others.

Well that could be part of it but I do know several Sprint antennas mounted on buildings that are definetly over 200 feet tall in downtown LA. Not FCC registered. I think there are a lot of variables as to why sites are registered with the FCC or not.

The 200 ft height thing has to do with the FAA, not the FCC. The FCC wants to know about any licensed RF transmitters, regardless of height. The FAA would be concerned with any structure higher than 200 ft, radio tower or otherwise, so that they can be put in a database of structures that pilots need to be aware of. If in close proximity to an airport that 200ft height "threshold of pain" would be lowered depending on how close to the airport. That's why ya might see marking and lighting on some towers that look rather short.
