I was looking at verizon in which i know the service is good but the phones suck. I was also looking at sprint pcs with the trimode so that if i dont get a sprint signal i would switch to analog. does anyone have this and does it work well???? is sprint pcs extended network as big as verizons network??? help i need advise because t mobile sucks

ok...im fromlong island, so i can help you outhere. ill make this simple...GO WITH VERIZON. They use 800 mhz so they have the best penetration you can get. However if you do use a sprint tri-mode, you will be able to roam on verizon, though i do not recomend it. Typically, my 8100 will have a very weak sprint signal, and a strong verizon digital or analog signal. The problem is that when you try to make a call on digital roam, the phone will switch back to sprints signal, even if it has a very weak signal. I find this very annoying. In the end....go with a trimode verizon phone.

Just wondering if you got a digital only, dual-band phone, that would prevent the hand-off to analog. That way, either you'd be on a VZW or Sprint digital signal. Suliman |

You can force all sprint phones onto analog only....so you will not have a problem there, the phone will stay on analog. The problem is with digital signals, the phone jumps between sprint and verizon constantly.

Roaming performance on Sprint can vary greatly depending on the type of phone, software and PRL. The Sanyos have always been known to have roaming issues while other brands don't. The best Sprint phones for roaming in my experience were actually the Kyoceras (which are no longer offered by Sprint). The Nokia's also do very well. Some people are saying that the brand new Sanyos are much improved for roaming. Samsungs also do pretty well at holding a roaming signal.

I have a Samsung dual band/tri-mode phone (Sprint PCS) and never have a problem switching back and forth while I am in a call. If I make a call while digital roaming, I will hold that signal until the call ends. This is whether I am in one spot or traveling within another 800mhz CDMA system. The newer Samsung phone gets good reception versus the older Samsung phones. Just wanted to make sure you get all scenarios. HAPPY HUNTING !!! and HAPPY NEW YEAR !!! | |
