Cingular in NY Metro Area - Network?

Does Cingular Wireless have it's own network on LI and in NYC? If you were to sign up for a plan with them do they roam onto AT&T or T-Mobile or something? I see a couple of Cingular stores around here and I do network searches on my phone and there is absolutely no Cingular Wireless present in any of the searches here. Although in NE I find it quite a few times.

Where's the orange guy around here? Does he use others?

In New York City, Northern New Jersey and Long Island Cingular and T-Mobile share a network. In Central and Southern New Jersey (Middlesex County and south) as well as Connecticut (and other places of course) Cingular has its own Network.

and itll default register as TMO whihc is why you dont see cingular when doing a network serach

Cingular Roams of Tmobile in NYC/LI Right.

So a coverage map for Tmobile in the area and a coverage map for Cingular in the area will be exactly the same. Right?

If you go into a T-mobile corporate store and give them a Zip code and a state they can give you VERY detailed coverage of your area. They can't give you street names on there map but they can give you landmarks like cemetarys and parks for Reference. Thats how i found out that my house has Excellent Tmobile coverage BUT two blocks east of me for 2 streets the coverage is "Good" and then goes back to being excellent which tells me where there cell sites here probably are.

So, if you want local Cingular coverage in your area and you live in NYC/NJ then all you have to do is go to a tmobile store and give them your zip code right?
