Default ABOUT TO CHUCK PHONE OUT WINDOW!

someone please expalin this one- i have the i90c by motorola and my partner has the i95cl. we have NEXTEL service. i hold them side by side and discover the i95cl always has a 2 bar signal difference! how can this be possible if they are in the same place at the same time??????? is it because the i95cl is just a better phone???? i have been having MAJOR issues with my i90c. everytime- and i mean EVERYTIME i answer a call i say hello and it always ECHOES in my ear! and this lasts for the duration of the phone call. every word i say echoes in my ear. BUT- when i place a call i have no problems! i have been in contact with my authorized service center and told me nothing is wrong. i callled motorola myself and they did an audio test and found nothing. my next step is sending them my phone but i can't be without my phone. so is it the phone or the service???? should i just get a "better phone"? i have nextel and live in Brooklyn, NY. please help.

I think Nextel still offers software upgrades for certain phones. I would call them (another great joy in life), and ask if they can do it over the air. It may help, because both phones are fundamentally the same.

There is obiviously something wrong with the phone and I hate it when Nextel says nothing is wrong. I went through a similar situation....I had bought 4 lines in may (2 i35's, 1 i60, and my i88) all worked great except my phone....basically it was useless. I kept my sprint # so I could use it as my primary cellular and used only my nextel for DC. After 6-8months of paying huge bills with nextel $250 month for all 4 lines I called and complained. The rep advised me to use one of the other phones with my sim card in it for about 4 days and see if the phone makes a difference. WOW what a difference my wifes i 60 made. I could keep calls in places that my i88 wouldn't. I also played around with them in trace mode and the i60 always got better reception...even my dads i30 got better reception than my i88. So i ordered a brand new I730 and the first day I had it I experienced the same drop calls that I had experienced with my i88. I was so frustrated...even in trace mode the i60 and i30 outshined the i730....I called and complained and was told there was nothing they could do.....finally after about a 2 hour cust serv call I got someone in retention and she sent me a brand new i730 and it works great.....now I have disconnected my sprint service and I only rely on my Nextel service. GOod luck

itself??????
Both, normally it is the site, but if your phone is acting up or has problems, then it could be the phone, normally echo, is either the volume is too high or it is a base station problem since echo canceling is done at the site level.

Default ABOUT TO CHUCK PHONE OUT WINDOW!

I don't know a thing about the technology Nextel's network is based on (IDEN), but I do know that "echo" in digital cellular networks is a phenomenon that occurs between mobile-landline or landline to mobile calls. Mobile to mobile isn't an issue. Every digital network I know of must use echo cancellers to some extent. Sometimes depending on how the echo cancellers are used, if there is lots of traffic on the network, there may be times when they run into Echo cancellor congestion. Just one of many possibilities, but nevertheless you should make sure the engineering/network planning side of Nextel know about your echo problems, as EVERY Landline-->Mobile call resulting in echo, sounds pretty serious to me.

And BTW, don't get all uptight about signal strength indications on the phone. A cell phone is nothing more than a fancy radio. Ham radio operators have spent literally 80 years arguing back & forth about signal strength meter indications vs voice quality and to this day still don't agree (e.g- ask 10 people how you sound and you'll get ten slightly different answers). In a perfect world the phone mfr's should be able to get rid of the indicator altogether and noone should no the difference.

Bottom line is can ya make a phone call or not under weak and strong signal conditions???

I am not so sure about that. I think i have had the echo on a cell call before but i am not sure. But the landline thing is definately a comon rare occurcance. (i t happens EVERY once in a while,)

usually a letter after a modle# means that the "frimware" has been upgraded.

For instance LG vx4400 has frimware #8
and LG vx4400B has frimware # 10

The LG vx4400 can be taken to a store, and if the store has the latest firnware, the phone can be "flashed" and upgraded.

Maybe this would work for you.....Good Luck.

The cool thing is you can still chuck your phone out the window, and the phone will probably still work

The i90c in my opinion is worse in terms of reception. A software upgrade may or may not help. You can check the software version by pressing "#,*, menu, right arrow"in quick succession. I forget the latest release, but can look it up if you want. Either way the i90 I have found to be worse than others.

Try a master reset, and be sure to turn your phone off once a day. The echo has to do with the echo cancellers at the cell site. Typically it is just one site, and there is a technical reason why it echos due to mis-matched frequencies. If the problem persists, and you find a common area you get it I would report it to Nextel tech support.

I went through a similar situation with Nextel....had an I88 with terrible coverage, even my wifes I60 had much better service. I went round and round with them...spent like 2 weeks talking to different CSR's and Tech's, Finally I broke down and spent $300 on an I730....bad mistake. The first one was worse than my I88 so I spent like another week trying to get it swapped out(it was pure he11)...Finally got it swapped and it did work much better but their service still stinks here in Mississippi so I dumped them and I am so glad. I had 4 lines for our family business to communicate with each other and the DC feature worked great but don't count on regular calls....now back with Sprint and we love it!
