Hello All, I am new here and I need some advice. Basically I was very excited to port my ATT number over to T-Mobile or Verizon or frankly anyone since the TDMA reception is horrible and the GSM is non existent where I live. To make a long story very short they now tell me that several months ago I had agreed to a new contract with them for another year by accepting some kind of promotional credit which I don't even remember doing and would never do intentionally since all I wanted to do was wait till November and leave. So is there any way I can appeal the fact that I am under contract until next summer? Any advice is appreciated. |

Figure out a place that Verizon has service, or T-Mobile (who is GSM, probably not in your area) where ATT doesnt have any service...its not THAT hard really... Tell them your moving there, and give them some fake address, with a REAL zip code..They should be able to disconnect you without and Early Termination Fee... But what do I know? |

att also wont always cancel service without etf just because you move, so long as they provide coverage where you signed up for service they arent required to end your contract... your best best is to speak with supervisors. make sure you do this in one call as they will note your account. you could also just go ahead and port your number, and deal with the supervisors after your number has been ported. if they are of no assistance, you should contact ATT wireless corporate customer care, if you need the number, let me know and ill dig it up for you. also, you can contact the FCC and Washington State's Attorney General as a last ditch effort.

Could you post the customer care #? I don't think I am at the legal action stage yet but the supervisors were of no use. Thank you! Also does anyone have any thoughts on the new Nokia Verizon phone vs. the LG 4400. |

The number is 425.580.6000 As for the phones, I am not a huge fan of the 4400. It gets sub-par reception, not great battery life and has a crummy screen.

Actually GSM has more for it then Verizon...since its GSM, and used in more places then Verizon.. Not to mention it comes with more features, then Verizon, in more places..... As for ATT....Forget the number porting, just get away from them |

I can understand wanting to get out of a really bad plan because it hasn't worked out at all for you but... AT&T is out to make money just like anyone. I get annoyed when people sign a contract with their cellular service or extend their contract, and then want out no ifs ands or buts. When you sign a contract, you are in. Calling the FCC? Thats a little much. There going to tell you the same thing I am, you signed a contract, you are stuck with the fee if you want out. You might get lucky and find a generous supervisor with will feel for you and let you out. Fine. But don't try to blame a business that has done nothing morally wrong except maybe have poor service in your area. Anyway, I know how you feel, I was in your same situation. Here's my advise. Pay the fee or stay until summer. |

speak with someone from customer resolutions or whatever they call it now. stay on the phone and keep asking for someone higher up if you dont hear what you want. do this in the same phone call so there is no loss of info between the different people you speak with. i had to get ahold off someone from the fcc to get out off att contracts before.

Unfortunately, you originally signed one of the most air-tight contracts in wireless. I know because I helped write it (sorry!). If you're porting, take the advice above and move the number. You might connect with a sympathetic supervisor. You can also play the "I never agreed to that" card. Ask them SPECIFICALLY if they have a record of you "verbatim statement". That's the legalese they read to you when you agree to a contract extension over the phone. There's a good chance the rep won't even know what you're talking about. Use this to your advantage, and good luck!
