Is it possible to download third party software, ringtones, backgrounds etc. for verizon phones or are get it now apps and ringers the only things available?

Any help would be great

you can use some programs depending on the phone. they have to be brew programs and there is a lot of potential for screwing up the phone. what kind of phone is it?
