Here is what I got from an ATT representative after i inquired about when i can cancel my service: As a valued customer, your mLife is always our first priority. Thank you for contacting AT&T Wireless regarding your contract. Our records indicate that you have been a loyal customer with AT&T Wireless since August 15, 2002 and your current contract expires on October 24, 2003. You may cancel service on or after the 24th of October, 2003. However, you service will not be cancelled until the last day of that billing cycle which would be November 17, 2003. Why wouldn't my service be canceled on october 24th? If i sign a contract for one year, after that year i shouldn't have to pay one red cent if i cancel right? |

Its an issue of prorating. You will be paying for the whole month so they just wont shut it off until then.

Yes your correct, they do not prorate unless you are a new customer in your 30-day trial period. No way to get around it, just another way for carriers to get all they can from you.

I just cancelled my account with AT&T, and I did not have the same experience: I was told to call on the first day of my LAST billing cycle. Since my last billing cycle ends on October 22nd, I called today (September 23rd) to put the cancellation in motion. Hopefully all will go well, but the customer rep I talked to took careful notes. And I know from talking to her that previous discussions I had with AT&T customer service were noted in my account. I don't think that you can be required to pay past the end of your contract; call back and discuss it with them again. |

your not technically paying past your contract. the contract terms state that the service for months is paid in full, billable from the first day of the billing cycle... thats the way it works

AT&T's policy is that the service will be canceled at the end of the bill cycle to prevent prorating. Also in the policy, if you cancel at the end of contract, it may be canceled immediately at the customer's request. Give a call back in when your contract is up. If you do not get the option from the rep, ask to speak to their resolution dept, they should be able to help you. Best of luck B |

Not surprising since AT&T is the most stubborn carrier of all. Once you quit AT&T, you'll learn that others don't have such dictatorial policies.

called them up today. They told me the same thing as the email, so i asked to speak to manager. They said they would put me on with resolution department. Was put on hold, 5 minutes later same person came back on, said the resolution department said they would make an exception for me and to call on the day after my contract is up to cancel and get a prorated bill. No more ATT soon, that nice
