Need to start a new contract but wasn't sure if I added a line later on it would cause the contract to start over.

Are you adding a "new" line or changing to family share?

well i could do both actually. my contract is up and parents will be up soon and it doesn't matter if they keep their numbers.

i talked a vz rep and if the numbers both exist (you want to keep your number) it will reset the contracts on both phones. i didn't ask about if it is a brand new line. do you know?

Each line has it's own contract... however if switching your current line to a family share plan it would extend it at minimum 1 year. Anyway you look at it expect at least a 1 year extension from the date of the change.
