I need to get wireless phone ASAP and I'm wondering if sprint or verizon has better reception around Nassau county (New Hyde Park) in Long Island. Anything will be helpful. Thanks |

Most of my relatives that live on LI have either Sprint or Verizon. I was there in July for two weeks, and had great reception with Sprint from NYC all the way to Sayville and points in between. Just remember that both have 14 day trial periods to test the service. With Sprint I would recommend getting a Sanyo phone, and with Verizon every one likes the LG phones.

AT&T is the most widely used throughout LI in both Nassau and Suffolk county, and through my own experience, probably has the smallest amount of holes. If there's anyone you want to stay away from here, it's Cingular and T-Mobile (since Cingular piggybacks, it's the same...awful...network...). Out here, Verizon or Sprint are both good second choices in command to AT&T. AT&T goes past Sayville, and the only place I can remember it not getting service is one area in Montauk and one area (at the VERY bottom of this hill) in Laurel Hollow where it loses signal for a few seconds.

Exactly what I mean by bad coverage. Hopefully it will improve even further once they roll out 850 GSM here sometime this fall. I'm waiting for it, and once it happens, the signal will boost in my house...(thank GOD...). AT&T is the only carrier to get service in my house, and if it becomes 850 GSM, then it will be the only carrier to get a strong signal and/or signal in my house. | |

Verizon will have better in building coverage, they both have similiar outside coverage, Verizon might be slightly better.

Living in Nassau, Verizon has the best coverage BY FAR. Sprint and T-mobile are the biggest p.o.s. ever... don't even try. ATT also is no good-- barely work in Suffolk. Definitely get Verizon by far.

Yes...AT&T GSM is far from being good in Suffolk. The Smithtown/Stony Brook area is especially weak.

I know first hand Verizon is also horrible on Long Island from Centereach to Smithtown. I was considering switching to AT&T GSM. I"ve heard such mixed stories about GSM. some say its great others say its useless. Now i don't know which carrier to switch to in order to get good reception. Can anyone help. Thank you.

I live in suffolk out east and work in the garden city area. I had sprint, T-Mobile and currently have verizon. I am completely happy with verizon. I work in a building that must have 10 ft thick cement walls and i still get a signal, which i didnt get with sprint and def not with t-Mobile. i would stay away from gsm (1900) because of the penetration issue. at this time I will stay with verizon for a while because in my opinion it is the best on LI |

I've been to Long Island several times and never had a problem (even in remote areas). My carrier is Verizon.
