Where on LI do you live? And which phones do your friends have? I was just there for two weeks. One of my relatives has Verizon in Huntington, and he wasn't having any troubles. Also the a310 is known to sometimes have poor RF. You may want to try another phone to see if the service gets better.

only way to see if its your phone is to find others that live there with verizon service and have a diferent handset. or you can go the expensive way and buy another one.

I am having similar problems with a Samsung A310 phone. In my house I used to get 3 to 4 bars of coverage. Now at times I get analog coverage or 1 bar digital. I have had my phone switch to analog a few times in various areas which are usually strong digital areas. It seems to be time dependent, as now I turn on my cell phone in my house at 8:40PM and I get 3 bars. I do know that a new tower is scheduled to be built in my area thats actually just a tad closer to me than the other 2 closest towers now. So my guess is that as more customers are using the cell, the coverage area diminishes so they need to build new towers to compensate. |

| Verizon has recorded record numbers of new subscribers. Technical documents on CDMA Technology state - " the capacity of the cell / sector is only limited by the call quality the customer can tolerate" Sounds like maybe this is it - I can tell you that the call quality stinks much of the time in my area.

It's only a natural cycle: a company has a really good network, they get really popular, everyone starts signing up with them, they add more customers than everyone else, they are the best in the business, and then their own success sooner or later begins to backfire at them. Once they have too many customers and are at the top of the hill, people begin to experience problems, the network becomes annoyingly busy, the quality starts to degrade because of the overcrowded systems, and people become discontent and start to leave. After this, the company growth stalls, and another company begins the same cycle by stealing the customers. The same happened to Cingular in CA, it happened to AOL in the late 90's and may happen to Verizon soon.

| If it weren't for the fact that the TDMA / GSM migrator networks are in such bad shape right now too, with LNP, VZN would likely lose some subs. Holy heck,.....T Mobile may even benefit from this !!!!

And if Verizon is reaching capacity they can't just throw up a tower wherever they feel like it. It probably takes at least 12 months from when the need for new coverage/capacity is identified to when it is actually built and operational.

| Although this may seem like a duty above and beyond, yes as far as I know, all wireless providers do at least some testing. The kicker is, that this testing, as explained on their website, specifically tests "call connectivity / dropped call ratio" NOT call quality. You may have decent signal / non dropped calls, but if you have to repeat everything 3 times,... well. So, even this presentation of "Best Network" is simply VZN's interpretation.
