Hi all, I am a new member here and am thinking about getting the vx6000 from verizon. I am in Vt quite often, and my wife's phone, a vx4400 works when I need it to work. How is the vx6000 going to fair in VT? I guess it comes down to trimode versus dual mode? Do you generally get a digital signal in VT? Or are you analog?

does her phone ever slip into analog mode ? If so for how long does it do that ? (the d or 1x turns to an A) if it stays in digital then you dont have any problems. if it does you may want to reconsider.

I spend most of my time in VT like this: Okemo - 50% of my ski days Stowe - 40% of my ski days Killington - 5% of my ski days Mount Snow - 5% of my ski days I would like the phone to work in digital mode at Okemo and Stowe, and as long as it works "sometimes" driving up and down I91 i would be happy. |

You will run into problems in Southern Vermont right now without analog support (Stowe is a-ok however). Check out: http://www.verizonwireless.com/image...NewEngland.gif which is Verizon's Express Network map - for Vermont you will see very good 1x digital coverage in Northern VT around Burlington, I-89, Rt. 7, Rt.4, and NORTHERN sections of I-91. However, VZW has no Cellular band license in Southern Vermont. As such, you will be on Analog Extended Network down there on either US Cellular or Unicel - both currently TDMA carriers. I will note that US Cellular is in the process of converting their network in the North East to CDMA which will eventually allow extended network access to digital service down there. I've 'heard' that it is scheduled for completion in 3Q of this year, but it's a roll of the dice whether or not it will be available for the next ski season! Good luck! |

Many of the US Cellular areas that are to be converted by Auguest 1st are already running CDMA for roamers. I think that the northeast is also one of the markets to be launched. If you can hold off until Aug. 1st, you can check the US Cellular website and see if they are selling TDMA or CDMA phones in the areas you will be traveling through. Brad |

Tenderfoot, what page on verizonwireless do you use to get to that New England map. I wanted to see the New York/Philly/DC map and a Tennessee map, and the only one I can find on the VZ site is the national one--not enough detail. Thanks.

The map I referenced was Verizon's Express Network maps. They are accessible from verizonwirless.com by clicking on "Start with Calling Plans" then clicking "View Map" on one of the Express Network plans (at the bottom of the page). These maps show Verizon's NATIVE digital service (now 100% 1X Digital). |

My wife and I travel fairly often to Vermont. We just came home yesterday after spending four days there. We have travelled almost all of Vermont from the Northeast Kingdom all the way to Suthern VT and we both have service with Verizon. I found that digitial is laid out well in the MAJOR areas of VT. If you are near Burlington or Montpielier the signal is very strong. We also had very good signal recently when we stayed in Waterbury. As for some other areas of VT though, you will have a problem getting ANY signal, let alone analog (we experienced this in Weston, part of Waterbury and near Mount Snow in the past). I guess the simple fact is that in some parts of VT, especially in the mountans, no matter which carrier or phone you have, you will not get a signal at all and many areas are not digital.
