Default Verizon to Analog Handoff

I was traveling up the highway with my Verizon phone and noticed my signal start to go down. It eventually lost all signal and the display read "No Service" for about 30 seconds when it then connected to an analog tower. With my old AT&T TDMA phone, it would switch on and off without ever displaying "No Service". Why did my Samsung A310 do this?

Default Verizon to Analog Handoff

my vx4400 does the same thing sometimes. it just depends on how fast the phone "finds" the analog tower after not being able to find a digital signal.

Default Verizon to Analog Handoff

as far as i know from previous post, it is NOT possible to handoff a digital to analog call, it is meant to drop the call. You can hand off between different digital carriers, hense GSM.

Default Verizon to Analog Handoff

I never have problems handing off digital to analog. My only problem is that I live on the border of two different SID's and they have different brand switches. (1038 is the old Nortel CenturyTel switch in Louisiana and 208 is Alltel's Motorola switch in Little Rock)
Hopefully that will all end when moves the towers that are on 1038 to L.R. onto the Motorola switch.

i may very possibly be wrong, but i think it is possible to hand off from a digital call into analog as long as you are staying within the same provider, but when you are switching from verizon digital to another company's analog, the call will drop. It will also drop when switching from verizon digital to another digital network...

As far as I know you can switch from digital to analog, but CDMA does not support analog to digital transfers. Basically when you hit an analog tower you are stuck talking in analog until you end the call. Analog will hand off to analog and you can continue traveling.

Correct me if I'm wrong

TDMA and Analog are buddies, therefore, you can handoff from one to the other back and forth with no problems. However, CDMA only supports handoffs CDMA to Analog, not the other way around. When your Verizon phone had "No service" for about 30 seconds that only means there was an area where there was a gap in coverage or the phone was performing an extended scan until it found the analog towers.
