Verizon sticks to the rule that you have to have service for a year before you can upgrade your phone. Even if you sign a new contract now, they should let you upgrade your phone in a few months once you have reached your anniversary of service with them.

No. Verizon will maje you pay full price of the phone if you upgrade your plan. To get a prom price, you have to cancel your current service, and then sign a new contract.

You only have to wate 10 months to get a new phone Call the CS rep they will tell you when you qualify for a new phone. Personaly I would wate I taked to a Customer Service rep today they told me that PTT is going to be released before the end of summer. That means new phones.

this is not true. verizon will sell you a new phone at a promo price 10 months after you've purchased your phone from them. upgrading your plan before your 10 months only changes your plan minutes, but as far as the phone is concerned, they make you wait 10 months between phones for a promo price. For example, if your contract started on Jan 1,2003 and you bought the phone from them at that time and then you upgrade to a different plan on April 1,2003(promotions staying the same, except for the increase/decrease in minutes), then your new contract will still end on Jan 1,2004 but you would still have to wait until Nov 1, 2003 to get a promo phone. I highlight "from them" because before your 10 months are up, you can switch phones buy buying one from ebay, buying from verizon at FULL price or like me, i got a v60 as a gift, so i was able to switch to a better phone in the middle of my 10 month cycle. Switching to a phone purchased elsewhere, given to you or even FULL price from verizon doesn't reset this 10 month cycle, only purchasing a phone from verizon at promo price does.

I had a problem with my existing phone - not working properly - on the 8th month of 1yr contract. They replaced the bad one but the replacement had the same problem. Customer service manager offered me a deal if I renew the contract for 1yr. (LG VX4400 for $239.99 - $100.00 Mail-In-Rebate for 1yr contract, no activation fee or $199.99 - $100.00 MIR for 2yr contract, no activation fee. If you have good reason or "story," they might give it to you. Give it a try and good luck. |

Verizon basically has two agreements... a service agreement 1 or 2 year term for the service and an equipment agreement based on whether you choose a 1 or 2 year service agreement promo price after 10 months on 1 year plan and 22 months on a 2 year. |

if you just increase the amount of minutes that you get every month, you will not have to sign a new contract. if you change you plan to a different plan i.e. from the $35 for 300 min plan to the $39.99 for 400 min plan then you would have to sign a new contract. as long as you stay on the same plan you wont have to sign a new contract.

Verizon told me that changing your plan for more/less minutes, not including promotions, would not reset your contract end date but getting a phone at a promo price or getting additional promotions than you already have on your plan, will force you to resign for another year/2year contract

What is confusing the facts are the explanations some of you guys are laying out there. If I'm on the 300 min AC plan with the promo 1000 m2m and unlimited n/w deal and wanted to upgrade my plan to a higher rate plan, say 700 mins within the same AC plan -- then no you do not need to agree to another 1 year contract term! If however you were solely on the 300 min AC plan but wanted to take advantage of any additional promotional offers, such as adding the 1000 m2m + unlimited n/w deal in addition to jumping up to 700 anytime minutes, then yes a contract renewal/extension would be required. I personally have changed my rate plan WITHIN the AC plans and have not incurred any contract extension. It generally occurs if you want to take advantage of any promotional offers. |

you are correct kenster and i've edited my previous replies, hopefully they are clearer. getting back to the original post.... no if it's been less than 10 months(on a 1 year contract, 22months on a 2yr) since purchasing your phone from verizon. yes if it's more than 10 months(on a 1 yr, 22 months on a 2yr) since buying it from them. |
