My mother is in Upstate New York State right now. I ATTEMPTED to talk to her on her Cingular phone today. It was T E R R I B L E! I'm wondering if this is an isolated event or is this the way Cingular is in this area? BTW: Clayton/Watertown area of Jefferson County,NY is where she is.

You were probably in a weak area. Upstate NY is not the best area for any carrier.

Cingular has not committed the money to challenge Verizon in upstate. We are one of the markets that forces Cingular to offer more minutes and features than Verizon, because coverage in very inferior. |

This area of New York is dead to cellular. I just got a call from her, she had to go into CANADA to call me. That is sad that she had to leave the country to call me.

I have family in that area. In Sandy Creek, about 30 miles south of Watertown and I usually don't have any problems. When you are on or near Interstate 81 you usually get good coverage. We were just in the Salmon Run mall in Watertown about 2 weeks ago with Cingular GSM and there was adequate coverage to receive and make clear calls. Is she right in the city or in the outskirts somewhere? I have found traveling up there and back here to Binghamton I have good GSM coverage all of the way. AT&T just setup coverage along I-81 and sometimes when Cingular is weak I will pick up the ATT with full service. But, the are is certainly not dead to cellular, I have never had no service. Obviously sometimes weaker than others but I can't understand having to go to Canada to call. There must be something wrong with her service or phone. I have taken I-81 all the way up to Alexandria Bay with service all the way up. I have a friend in college in Potsdam, NY which is even further upstate and he has full Cingular coverage up there. I am no Cingular zealot either, I hate them, all I feel for them is righteous indignation but the service in Upstate NY I would personally describe as adequate in my situation and I do a lot of traveling up there and back. |
