Right now, i have the samsung a460, but the wretched thing loses signal every single f***ing call. I am considering upgrading to either the vi660 or the lg-5225. Are either of these phones any good? Can expect better reception with either? Any other suggestions?

The vi660 is a decent phone but make sure you get one with software version XA28 if you decide to get that one. Whether or not it will get better reception than the 460 I can't say.

However, I trust Samsung since we have two Samsung VGA 1000's and I used my phone in a fringe Sprint PCS area (with 0 bars and about -107 db's) and I could still make a call (with the antenna up) with no problems. I also heard that Sanyo phones are good on Sprint's network, so maybe you should post this in the General Discussion or Samung or Sanyo's forum on WA. BTW, welcome to WA chewbacca.

I would go with the Sanyo 4920. It's probably the best phone for the $$ right now.

So the 4920 is worth the extra $40 compared to the VI660 for a new customer?

Yea, and RL would be another plus. I doubt I would use either, but for the price & features it sounds like it is well worth it. I am poor right now, so I hope I can resist the urge to get the a680 on Thursday (The 1st - payday!) when I sign back up with Sprint.

I think Sanyo finally has a winner with the 4920. The earpiece is better than most Sanyos. The keypad feels solid. The build quality is better than the Nokia candy bars. It's tri-mode, sms capable, and has a faster browser than the 4900.

Very good! And to get back on track I would recommend anything other then the LG VI5225 and the Sprint VI600 from what I have read. |

I originally liked the Vi600. It has good form factor and feel to it. But many have reported problems with it so I would avoid it.

now why can't Sanyo build the quality of the 4920 into a 5500/4500 flip looking phone?

I don't know why people are putting down the LG 5225. There are only 2 reviews in the Sprint Users Forums. One person reviewed it based on prior models..discount it. Another had it for a few days and liked it very much. Excellent reception and good battery life. I looked at it in a SPRINT store and liked it right away. Easy to use menus, good screen with colors. Loved that it has no external antenna and that it's digital only............Greg.. |

I've got the Sanyo 8200 and while the ear piece isn't the best, it's totally acceptable. The speakerphone works well and signal strentgh is very solid. Worth looking into if you're in the market.

Thanks for posts everyone. I finally decided with the 4920, it isn't all that much bigger than my a460 and with rebate, it's only $50. |

I am liking my 4920 a lot so far. I picked one up at Best Buy yesterday. :eek Vision is so much faster then GRPS, and that is with images off on my 3600 & images on with the 4920. The sound was also a surprise, it is quite good for a Sanyo. Also like chewbacca mentioned the RF is rock solid -90 dB (1-2 bars) in my uncle's house in SoCal. That is compared to a Sanyo 6400 which was -96 dB (3 bars), and my 3600 which was anywhere from -90 to -103 dB in the same spot. The 4920 is also very well built, my 3600 dosn't even come close. The is the best inexpensive phone for Sprint right now, it is well worth the little extra money for it. BTW, Thanks Larry for the help. |
