WOBURN, Mass., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless today announced the expansion of its nationwide network into York County, Maine. The company has built and activated more than a dozen new cell sites and plans to add more this summer and throughout the year. The network build out follows the $750 million purchase of wireless spectrum in markets across the country last year. Maine's Coastline Gains Wireless Coverage Just in time for the summer, the new cell sites will provide Maine residents and visitors with wireless coverage along Route 1 and I-95 (Maine Turnpike) -- Maine's coastline in York County beginning in Eliot, with additional coverage expected along Route 236, Route 9 into Wells and Kennebunk; and Route 111 into Biddeford and Saco. Enhancements to new and existing coverage will continue throughout the year. "A wireless phone is only as good as the network it's on and we're pleased to provide enhancements in York County," said Bob Stott, president of Verizon Wireless' New England Region. "Our network expansion will allow us to better meet the growing needs of our customers' voice calls and data applications, like our two-way text messaging and picture messaging services, high-speed NationalAccess wireless Internet service and Get it Now® downloadable applications." These are 1900 MHz |

Does anyone know if Verizon is ever going to extend up into Penobscot County (Bangor)?? Do you still roam (Extended Network-->Unicel/US Cellular) on analog up in Bangor or is EN CDMA up there yet?? |

Basically everywhere in Maine covered by USCC is now digital, including Bangor. Verizon finally got their roaming agreements up with USCC so now Verizon folk can use their network as an Extended Network. Glad to see Verizon finally has coverage in York County. At least the prior coverage was Extended Network Digital on Alltel instead of analog. |

Verizon still has a roaming agreement with USCC, but in York County, Maine, USCC has no towers (not licensed there). Both Verizon and USCC have roamed up to now on Unicel (not Alltel) Digital. I assume Verizon will still roam on Unicel where in parts of York County where they don't have towers yet. -way |

I believe they only have a select amount of coverage turned on right now (I-95, Route 1 and the coast). I heard they were slowly turning on more into Kennebunk and other areas in York County.

I just traveled down to Boston and noticed right before the NH bridge and border the Verizon signal dropped to nothing. Anyone else notice this?

Hello everyone I have a question for those living in the NH/ME area. Im knew to the forum and im making the change over from USCC to Verizon. My home is here in Southern NH but I attend school in Oxford County Maine and my main concern revolves around analog coverage and extended network coverage. Having used USCC previously while at school my phone would consistently jump onto ATTWS network (I signed up with USCC during the old TDMA) and I would not be using my free night and weekend minutes when I was under the impression I was. So in turn I would end up with a $200 or higher bill which does not impress the parents. So getting back to my question when using VZW Americas choice if my phone says Extended Network and not roam am I still recieving free night and weekend minutes (during the set times)? Also what is everyones opinion (those living in maine) on the TRIMODE situation shall I wait an purchase the Moto V710 trimode or go ahead and buy the LG Vx600 which of course does not support analog. My feeling is just wait as my contract does not end until september anyways. Sorry for the ramble any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ! |
