Thumbs down Poor voice quality m2m

Myself and a business partner each just got 7100g with Cingular.
We are mostly in Bergen/Passaic Counties in NJ.
Excellent voice quality all around except when we talk m2m between each other.
Very scratchy, overall lousy voice quality.
We have already swapped out both phones and sim cards.
Any ideas? Is this a known problem with the 7100g?
Thanks in advance.!
BTW, just found your forum, have been reading through it and really enjoy!
Keep it up all, very informative!

Welcome to Wireless Advisor!

So you are saying that you are getting good voice quality when calling people on other networks or on their landline phones and just getting bad quality when talking to each other's phones?

Lots of reasons, what is Cingular saying in this regard?
I notice this often with Verizon m2m but mostly because of the clipping effect (cutting off word bits) due to noise suppression.
As an experiment try M2M with a Cingular rep or other Cingular user with a different phone. And without a head set.

good Luck.

Exactly., the problem is just between our two phones.

Cingular isn't saying much., they keep apologizing for our problem. They swapped out the phones and sim cards, but still the same problem. I tried the experiment with a rep and his phone sounded fine. He was using a razr.
I am really thinking the problem is with our 7100g's

If it only was your two phones, though, the problem would also occur if you're talking to someone on a landline or any other network since if your phones are bad, they stay bad, whether you're talking to each other or not.

Could it be that only one of the two phones has a problem? Have you tested both phones?

I personally have a feeling that it is one of the phones., the one my partner uses.
It doesnt seem that Cingular is going to do anything else for us.

Try calling each other with your phones, then have your partner call your landline, see if the problem persists. If Yes, it's your partners phone that's faulty.
Are you still within your 30 day trial with Cingular?

We have done that and yes we are still within the 30 days.
We would like to stay with Cingular, maybe I just have to give up the 7100 since it seems I cant get good ones.
I should say also that the problem is much less when using bluetooth or wired headsets with both units.

Maybe try different phones then BEFORE your trial with Cingular is over. If you exchange handsets and the problem continues it might be time to get a different carrier.

I haven't heard good things about the 7100g. There's a reason it is the cheapest PDA phone.

Thanks everyone for your help!
Today we switched to 7290's and it solved all problems.
Working as good or better than our 7520's did on Nextel!

Thanks again! Great boards, I will be following all discussions.
