Espoo, Finland - Nokia today unveiled three new mobile phones, further strengthening its portfolio of mid-range feature rich, voice-centric handsets. The highlight of this announcement is the Nokia 6230i camera phone, which adds a megapixel camera and push to talk functionality to the highly popular Nokia 6230. The Nokia 6230i and the Nokia 6021 are expected to start shipping in the second quarter and the Nokia 6030 in the third quarter of 2005.

"Nokia remains dedicated to offering consumers a variety of products to choose from, based on their individual needs and preferences," explains Aage Snorgaard, Vice President, Mobile Phones, Nokia. "The Nokia 6230i is the successor to one of the most popular camera phones Nokia has brought to the marketplace. With the Nokia 6230i, we are offering a broader feature set in the same classic design. We made a great phone even better."

The high-resolution screen (208 x 208 pixels) of the Nokia 6230i is an ideal backdrop for rich multimedia content. It displays colorful pictures taken by the built-in 1.3 megapixel camera with a 3 x digital zoom. The video recorder of the Nokia 6230i allows users to record videos of up to one hour, based on the storage of the MMC card included in the sales package.

For music lovers, the Nokia 6230i has a built-in stereo music player which supports several digital music formats, such as MP3, M4A and AAC. Now, favorite tunes from a CD library can easily be converted via PC software and loaded directly onto the Nokia 6230i. An FM radio with Visual Radio nicely rounds out the audio features of the Nokia 6230i.

Push to talk technology complements the feature set of the Nokia 6230i camera phone. It allows users to connect to others -- be it a group or an individual -- over GPRS, similar to using a walkie-talkie. Several operators worldwide have introduced push to talk services for consumers. The triband Nokia 6230i camera phone will be available at an estimated retail price, excluding taxes and subsidies, of 350 EUR.

WOW viewfly, what a find and a great way to start of March. You know I had seen rumors of the 6230i at various sites and I am sure glad to see it is for real.

According to Phonescoop this has only been announced for outside the US but an US version. is coming in a couple of weeks.

So far the spec sheet is only Euro version, 900/1800/1900. We may have to wait

If Nokia made this a quad band (whether one needs it or not), they would clean Motorola's clock. I have nothing against Moto at all, but from a marketing standpoint, Nokia has almost a winner for those people who really want a quad and will forgo the other neat features of this Nokia phone.

Whether quad is needed or not, perception is reality sometimes in marketing.

I just looked and it's only 32MB. This is an odd choice for a phone to add iTunes on .

True, I was wondering about that myself but it does have 512MB MMC card though.

The display pixel increase on the 6230i from 128x128 to 208x208 rivals my V551 that has 176x220.

Oh well if it has a MMC card slot then that's pretty good for MP3's. And I did notice the higher resolution on the screen... can't wait to see this phone because I liked the 6230. But I wonder why companies keep releasing GSM phones with PTT when nobody offers it.

Look to the europeans for your answer. I think it's T-Mobile Germany that has PTT on the GSM network now. It may just be a manufacturing thing because there are some people that would be able to use it in countries around the world with PTT.

Cingular is angling to use this soon too.

The current Cingular 6230 may be phasing out...the Cingular web page now lists it for $99. Last month it was $149.

I hope the prices on them on ebay start to drop also. I would love to get one, but there aren't many auctions on ebay where they are below $200, which I don't want to pay right now!

What an incredible surprise coming from Nokia . T-Mobile is testing PTT in Germany as well as in Austria. Right now, they're focusing on PTT models such as the 5140 and the 6170 but they will definitely be the ones to pick up the 6230i once it comes out.

Cingular is testing the PTT in GA, and we may see if coming out within the year. Just hope it doesn't have the Chirps like Nextels.
