This looks a good phone that I would like, after my 6131. E51 Nokia - Nokia E51 - Phones - Find products A business phone with all the 'fun' features. I first looked at it on the UK/European site. I was wondering if all of the advanced features would work in the USA. But now I see it on the nokia USA site. It's 'coming soon', but it can be bought now in the UK. Bobolito, dmapr, Charlie, etc. any thoughts of potential shortcomings in the USA? I wondered if the HSDPA is the same as us. I figured the Push to Talk may not work...that's ok. But it has quad band, WLAN, and WCDMA at 850/2100. Plus VoIP Plus a 1050 mAH battery for a 4.4 hr talk time. |

Hmmm. So the 2100 would give me voice in Japan, where I need it and Quad band voice every where else, plus 2100 Wcdma in Europe. But ATT is planning 850 Wcdma in the States, no? Their phones all have 850/1900 3G. This phone does have Edge at least. Plus Wlan

Charlyee, Do you think that this phone is coming to Tmobile, not ATT? |

viewfly, from what I've seen so far nobody has reported any success getting US 3G to work on any of the Nokia 850/2100MHz 3G devices, so it's hard to tell what'll happen when AT&T starts deploying more 3G on 850MHz. I believe the current deployment is predominantly 1900MHz. Unfortunately the likelihood of a Nokia release that will support both US and "rest of the world" 3G is unlikely in the near future If world-wide 3G is important to you, the choices are very limited right now. There are several Windows Mobile devices, Sony Ericsson K850i and that's about it, IIRC. |

What about the 850Mhz on the Treo's, BlackJacks, etc. Or is it impossible to tell if it is 850 or 1900? I guess 3G is not important to me, really only in Japan where there is no GSM, only WCDMA. But it clearly is coming to the USA, since it is on the Nokia USA page.

I am not sure if there is any WCDMA 850 in the US. I have band selection on my Treo but not a way to choose between 850 and 1900. I cannot find any mods for doing this either in GSM or WCDMA, so I could figure out if and where there is any WCDMA 850. If WCDMA is not important to you, go for it.

Thanks guys for your opinion. I guess some things don't change. 850/1900, I would have thought that ATT was going to build out both at the same time, since they are selling all of their phones with both for 3G. I have some time, the 6131 is doing very nicely, looks like new. The E51 is a good looking phone that I will keep my eyes on. Best, |

There should be some more SE handsets available within the next few months that support American 3G bands.

I do love the Nokia's. I just wish that, once again, ATT had a bigger set of the type of offerings available to you over there on the other side of the big lake. Esp. at the discounted price points. Best,

viewfly, any interest in the "N" series? The N78 just got FCC approval for 850/1900 WCDMA. Here are the specification for the European version, which seems to be the same as the US version except the 3G frequency ofcourse. The only problem is it doesn't look like the US version will have 2100, so your Japan problem does not get solved, otherwise comes to impressive credentials and ofcourse a matching price tag.

I've danced around the N series more than once, but never got to like it too much. This one does seem more interesting. My 6131 is doing fine, and I don't really gain too much except maybe a better camera and 3G frequencies. So I might as well wait it out a bit longer. I think I just in a 'new toy' mode right now.
