Question How to know if a battery is failing

I've had my 6126 for about 3 months now and I love it. I am very diligent about keeping the BL-4C battery charged and I use only Nokia OEM chargers (home and car). I know that the battery life is not great and I can live with that but after not using my phone at all yesterday and putting it in Silent mode overnight this morning I was shocked to see that the phone had turned itself off. When I turned it on there was a message saying that the battery was low so it's on charge now. Am I charging the battery too often? I charge it whenever the green battery indicator has some white showing, like if the battery is at 75% . Is this too much?

Also, what is the latest software version? A Sep. 22 post in the Nokia 6131 Review says that 6.10 is/was the latest.

That sounds like too soon for the battery to die. I would say that even charging once a day you'll get at least a year out of a BLC-4.

The latest firmware for 6126 is 5.61, IIRC. 6.10 is the latest global 6131 version, some variants have been updated to 6.40 or so.

I'm just trying to understand how after 24 hours of non-use, with the phone simply being on, the battery was drained completely flat, to the point of the phone shutting itself off.

If it was just a singular occasion, I could chalk it up to you accidentally hitting the camera button. I wouldn't be surprised if with camera on the phone wouldn't last 24 hours. If it happens consistently, the battery just doesn't hold charge anymore. Three months is a short enough time when you might be able to get a new battery from the manufacturer.
