Can you buy a cell phone in the States and have it work in Canada???

Hey!

I was wondering... could I buy a cell phone (i.e. Nokia 7210) in the States, bring it to Canada and get a provider in my area? I suppose I would have to get a model that they offer in Canada though...

I was told the Nokia 7210 was coming to Canada in February, and Rogers AT&T will carry it.

Any views on this?

PS. I travel to the States often to see family, that's why I was considering this option. And plus, you guys have all the cool cell phones way sooner than us and even with the exchange rate, I might get a better deal in the US since it's a bigger market! Well as long as u buy a phone and then unlock it, and making sure it works on the Canadian networks which shouldn't differ from the american ones, I don't think it should be a problem...run a search on ebay, lots of unlocked phone sbeing sold there.
